2000 XK8 Alpine Sound System
Sounds like something from an Overstock Discount Store. Awful. CD player in the truck is a near mystery. Speaker quality is trash. Anyone replace the speakers and CD player with something current? I'd appreciate some suggestions as I can't stand to listen to what is in it now.
Not sure if you have the premium sound or not, but I did and I replaced the head unit and put a new amp in the trunk and it sounds amazing... you can read about my and other's stereo adventures here:

The speakers are all paper cone and they don't age well. I replaced all of them with Pioneers in front and kickers in the rear initially. Since then everything has been replaced again with far higher end components and I've got a current generation double DIN receiver feeding one hell of an amp in the trunk. Be aware the alpine uses a unique proprietary optical link to the amps so you have to replace the head unit and the amps, you can't do one or the other. The HK is far easier to work with.
I replaced my head unit, be careful the old black radio/ac control fascia plastic loves to crack and break all over.
Even with a wiring diagram, use a 9volt battery to verify your wires are speaker wires before cutting them as I found my some of my speaker wires not in the correct harness, and similar color to the wheel speed sensor etc(all of them are in the console bunched up)
There is no comparison to what was there before, night and day difference.

Out of curiosity, has anyone replaced all of the speakers in their car with more modern, updated ones. If so, I'd like to know which speakers fit the front dash and door tweeters (already replaced the mid-range in the doors, and there are numerous posts on the subwoofers).
Done it 3 times, once in my old XK8 and twice in my XKR. Rear seat of the XKR is now huge subs.
Here are some references that helped me:

The sound in my XKR is now better than my 2014 F-Type with the 770 watt upgrade. But it wasn't a cheap date.

Thanks, great information. Now to find someone who carries the right speakers. Crutchfield has no listings for either the dash speakers or the door tweeters. Have a great weekend!

They stopped making most of those speakers but the fronts are pretty standard sizes so I've had no problem finding others that will fit, and while the kickers aren't around anymore I found it better to go to full range speakers in the back anyway. Granted I took out the seats for the subs. A good stereo shop should be able to sort this for you or you could call Crutchfield' with the names of the speakers that we know work and they likely can recommend alternatives. Good luck!!
