Default 2000 XK8 Special Edition?

Hello Gentlemen.
I'm traditionally a 928 guy (no snickering please).
I was trolling CL this morning and came across a special edition XK8.
It seems to have the period correct badge, and wood interior.
Engine is a 4.0L.
But I couldn't find any real resources online -- that addressed what special edition this is, and what the package included for a XK8 in this model year?

Now I'm curious.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Dave.

Welcome to the forum Dave,

The XK8/XKR had a number of "special editions" throughout the production run. The "special" usually referred to trim and options rather than any performance enhancements to differentiate from the standard Model Year offering.

Possibly a more important consideration is none of the "special editions" attract a price premium although they are sometimes easier to sell.

Graham

To build on Graham's comments, the "special editions" the XK line received were usually limited to the higher-performance XKR rather than the base XK8, such as the Silverstone package and the XKR100 edition. If someone is trying to sell an XK8 as being a "special edition", I'd suspect it was some cosmetic fluff added by a dealer at some point, whether in the past or right now.

Thank you Graham!
Appreciate the hospitality and quick response.
That makes sense to me.
I will probably be lurking until I find the right XKR.
This one was kind of an academic enigma for me!

Yes, the fact that I couldn't find any documentation of any specific XK8 special editions gave me pause.
All the examples I found were in fact XKR, as you said.
Here's the link since I brought it up:

No snickering from me. I adored my 928S 5-speed.

Now if it only had the power of my xkr. That would be a super sweet ride.

From the CL link:

Here's a link to that "limited edition" sticker for sale on Amazon:

Amazon Amazon

$7.99 & free shipping. It's NOT a JLR sticker.

The exception is the 2006 US-only Victory Edition (available in XK8 & R). Offered unique colors, had elm wood veneer (carbon fiber in XKR) and special badging and trim.

YIKES.
Well, that puts that issue to bed.

Indeed.
They are endearing GT's.
I was lucky to find a late 86 manual, so I got the original body lines but the bigger brakes and 32v engine.

YES - in the Rest of the World this same specification was sold as XK8/XKR 4.2-S Final Series. I had a 2005 Frost Blue XK8 4.2-S Final Series as seen in this post I used for the CLASSIFIEDS guidance thread:

The perfect 928!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, that's a great (rare) color too.
Best, Dave.

On the subject of special editions, I recall a few "Stirling Moss" edition XKRs that were done up by a dealer; per an email conversation with the Jaguar Classic folks, this was also not factory-sanctioned. It's been discussed here as well. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ng-moss-43964/
