2000 XK8 Starting/Sensor Problem

Default 2000 XK8 Starting/Sensor Problem

Hello,
Ever since I've owned my 2000 XK8 (almost 3 years), it's had an intermittent starting problem which never seems to happen when I'm at the shop, but almost always happens when I'm home.

About 80% of the time, mostly when the car has been sitting for over 2 days, the car will do a system check when I turn on the power and it will run the following error messages 1) Trac Control Fault 2) Gearbox Fault 3) ASC Fault 4) Restricted Engine Performance. When this happens, I cannot start the car. However, EVERY TIME, this condition will fix itself on its own in anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. You will here something behind the gauge cluster "turn on," then the warning messages will go away and I can start the car and everything's fine. I can't seem to get a shop to figure it out, as it never happens when it's at the shop, so there is nothing to diagnose.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this annoying problem? Thanks!!!

You might start by checking the state of the battery and the connection to ground in the trunk. Also, other exposed ground connections could be an issue.

Thanks. Battery is only about a year old and I run a battery tender on it, but I'll check the ground connections.

You could also try removing the instrument pack (videos available) and try taking a look at those connectors. Not sure that will help but may be worth a try.

You could also try scanning for pending codes.
