It cost me $170.00..................I took it over to Paul's Shop at Noon Today....He is going to save the current Pump that quit on me.......I think the way out of this is to find a replacement Motor....surely they are available somewhere on the Net. I will let you know the Brand and Number as soon as they get it out of the Car! Jaguar was charging around $800.00 Bucks for this item and now they don't have one! What a way to run a Company! Right on. I hear you. And good for you on finding the used unit! I wish I had the ability (maybe) to buy, especially major components like this, new, but I don't. In that, I think not only have I become something of an expert hunter for used stuff, I've learned that if it can be had as a second, why not...? I mean, 4 cars that I have would break my small bank. And you, after 4 pumps I think ya made the right move.

The pumps, and I don't know if this is true for the 03 and 05 - mine being an 04 - I think are made by a pretty amazing company called VDO. It was very difficult to find the pump separate from the housing - I couldn't... I didn't have the courage (at that stage in reviving the car) to buy and try something like this which I bet my pinky toe - would work. Again, just dropping it into the basket and securing it somehow. Wouldn't be hard.

When I got the first pump out of the car I think I destroyed a perfectly good pump, that was just gummed up. The car had sat for some time. I cut it open, stupidly ignoring the advise of some really smart folks here, who said to soak it. I did, but don't think I gave it enough time or used the right product to soak it in. When I applied voltage I could feel it "bump" but not turn.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck.

And please, if you find that the old pump still works, let us know here. Might be the start of a real chase finding the electrical gremlin, but it's not so bad... That is, of you know what you are doing - lol - which I kinda maybe do/don't. What an adventure these things can be!

Judging by their 2020 Jaguar/Land Rover losses of over £861 million it is being run very badly.
Will they learn why people are moving away from Jaguar, due to public information available within these forums etc?
Don't be silly - the management all know best until they finally run the company totally into the ground!
People thought it was mis-managed by Ford

the 350 guys use the fuel pump motor from the E39 M5. one should be enough and not stress the FPR. maybe even a generic 255lph would work

Xalty,
Sorry but I don't understand your comment......Please explain: Who are the 350 guys? What is the E39 M5? (Is this a BMW?) What is FPR? and What is an 255lph?

I guess I've gotten in with a group of Electronic experts that speak a different language than they do down here in Texas.....Please help me out here!

I have the earlier version and just had a nice dinner at Pebble Beach, came out from dinner on sat night and no start. Stranded many miles from home and long story short was towed and left overnight at a shop. Sunday they worked on it and part of Monday. Total for fuel pump replacement was $875. I know the earlier pumps are cheap so must be $800 of labor!!!
Anyway the tech mentioned that the connector that pushes onto the pump was somewhat melted and had also to be replaced. Wondering now if the pump may have been ok if the connector had been replaced first….not sure why the plastic connector would be melted like that? Heat from the pump terminals as it failed?

Alan,

Hell of a place to have such a problem! Of all the places to have Car problems Pebble Beach would be my last choice......especially on Saturday Night...Sorry you had to go through that.....
The 2001 XK8's Fuel Pumps are suppose to be cheaper than $800.00, so some of that had to be Labor and Wrecker charge....But it's still a bunch....That makes a Costly Dinner pretty darn expensive! I guess that's what we get for loving a 20 year old Car!

Ain't we something?

I just read an article stating that Jaguar will be 100% Electric by 2025......No more Internal Combustion Engines for Jaguar....I guess we had best start collecting those hard to get Parts and those that have proven they they don't last long and become our own Parts Warehouse.....Either that or we will have to park our X-100......Stock up on Parts! I can't see me stocking up on Fuel Pumps @ $850.00 a piece.....Got to find out who makes the little Electric Motor are one that will work! Any thoughts?

Billy, when you get your new pump installed, please post photo of the pump you replaced. Seems that a pump by Osias E2226 is a replacement and readily available on E-Bay for less than $40.00

Although a great suggestion, you can get these for 13$ at aliexpress (ok add another 10$ for shipment).

Personally I would have one concern, would I want to risk a high performance (expensive) engine on such a component?

Key remains why so many pumps have failed, that's it a primary concern to work on, at least that would be it for me,

For other type of pumps you need to know that here are some ECU rational checks on the pumps performance, so you need to find a reliable pump that fits the original performance characteristics close enough to stay within these ecu checks, am sure with some patience you will find one that is close enough, but that may take some tries and tests.

It's worth a try at least to see if the Osias E2226 works. Might be a bit tricky to get it in the fuel pump assembly but if it works it works. Can't see it causing any damage to the car if the fuel pump is there anyway so I would say give it a shot at least. I know if mine broke and it was either a £15 part of a £800 part I would at least try the £15 part first and see if it works. You never know you could save yourself a lot of cash.

Andre & Charlie & Everyone who tried to Help!

Just came in from Paul's Shop...The Black Beauty is running again! We replaced the latest $875.00 Fuel Pump with the Used one I bought a Week or so ago from a Wrecking Yard, as the Motor had burned-out. When we hooked-up the Used Pump it started running and running, so knowing that that was not right, we disconnected it and started going back over Charlie's instructions again.......We found that the VDO Module was "REALLY HOT" and replaced it... but that didn't do the trick either......Finally, we rewired the connections on top of the Tank, as Charlie had done and all is well again!!! Still don't know why! But it is working correctly now.......So far I have replaced 4 new $850.00 Pumps and now I'm running a used $175.00 Pump from a wrecked XKR that had 75,000 miles on it......Don't know how long it will last but it is working now!

Charlie,, I don't know exactly what we did but it worked again! I appreciate you twice as much now! Do you know what causes this and is your system still working?
Andre, I sent a Photo of the Pump Unit earlier this Morning....As you probably know, it is completely different that the 4.0 Liter Pumps..... The Pump Motor is inside the Tank completely enclosed.....I'm going to try to find another motor and replace it for a spare Pump...just in case! If you know who made the Pump Motor, I would appreciate your letting me know!

Thanks to all for your suggestions and hopefully we all can learn from this!

take some dimensions of the old pump motor if possible. i’m going to guess it was VDO/Siemens that made it

the Ford GT (2005 supercar) or Lincoln Aviator are both high flow 250+ lph pumps and those cars use the same pwm controlled returnless system as these.

on my XKR are there two fuel pumps? My problem is if I overtake someone the restricted performance message comes up then goes out shortly after, I’ve been told that one of these pumps comes into play when the charger cuts in, if it’s faulty, maybe just intermittently would this be my problem? Is your 'R' also a 4.2L?

If so, then one fuel pump. If 4.0L, two pumps

Question for you. How far do you run your fuel tank down, before filling up? The fuel is what cools the fuel pump. Constantly running the tank low can possibly cause premature failure do to overheating of the fuel pump.
