UKMOT.com MOT Manual 3.4 ABS Systems

Sorry guys, (although you might fluke it if the tester is not on form that day)

When did ABS become mandatory in the UK/EU? If it was after 1996 - when the OP's car was registered - won't he be ok? I had an engine warning light on my Mini Cooper when I took it for its French MOT last year, but the tester ignored it because it was a 2001. Just a thought...

My understanding is that if the (ABS) system is part of the original fitment(which it was) then it's a testable item. I've been out of fleet management since 2009 so I can't claim to be current on regulations but it would be highly unusual if VOSA took a retrograde step on compliance with a safety item.(or anything else for that matter).Things changed when they became a government agency charged with being self sufficient financially. Last I heard (2009) they were up for privatisation or such like. There may well be MOT testers on this forum who can correct me if I am wrong. I also think there were moves afoot to abolish testing at three years old and carry out the first test at (I think) the fifth anniversary of registration - not that this would help the OP.

Done all except the soldering, however I now have TC/SC control failure as well as the ABS warning light permenantly on, so not as simple removing a bulb now :O(

Will send the unit away to not only have the pump soldering done but an overhall of the PCB...quite cheap at £100

Frog ABS is not a requirement even for new cars just that everything fitted must work.

For example I am looking to fit aftermarket front fogs as one of them is broken...I just removed them completely and therefore no fail.

Would be good to disable it but not terribly safe

Here's the kicker, not driven it for a couple of days, started up this morning and ABS light switches off after 3 seconds with no TC/SC warning. So drover 3 times and started up another 10 and all ok.

Took for MOT and passed!

Funny foibles these cars have!

Hi.

It is not that strange. A bad solder joint in the module, a harness on the way to break or bad connector may give you these symptoms, warning light comeing and going.
