Default Abs module necessary?

I'm in the process of changing out some parts with my car and all and I realize I need a new abs module as well. But is the abs module REALLY important? I know it should be changed, especially due to the faults being up, but that money could be used for something else towards the car. Is it really that important to have? Lol I've been riding 2000+ miles without it anyway

Have you asked your insurance company how they feel about it?

I'm not sure how they operate in California, but in Australia the car would not be considered roadworthy and therefore uninsured.

It would be the same here in the UK. Any modification from the manufacturer's specification must be declared.

Strictly necessary? If it fails, the brakes revert to 'normal' operation so the answer from a theoretical point of view must be NO.

What makes you think it needs to be replaced rather than repaired.?The most common fault is a cold solder joint on the pins to the abs pump, an easy diy which has been covered many times on the forum.

If you have the codes read by a foreign car shop with the necessary software and report the codes here we can help.

Look at it from an integrated perspective. The input from the ABS system (individual wheel speed) is available/broadcast on the CAN network for general use. The transmission module uses it for road speed (although there is a backup), and the ECM likely uses it to modulate the throttle under hard acceleration (traction control). I would definitely look into getting this module functional one way or the other.

I replaced my defective one with a cheap junkyard module after soldering pins, cleaning sensors and checking continuity of the sensor wiring, and so far so good. No more messages.

If you haven't already cracked your module open, you can have it rebuilt for $45 plus postage. Do a search on eBay for Pro Module Repair.
Removal and replacement is simple.

Unfortunately from an MOT point of view, as its a standard fitment and is a safety device, then it must function otherwise its a fail

$45? Jesus.

Is there anybody in the UK that does it for a similar price? I've been putting off getting mine fixed.
