abs reset?

abs reset?
Hello,
I'm currently chasing a fault code indicating a missing tooth on the front
wheel speed sensor ring. Initially I gave it a good clean and cleaned out the clag between the teeth; however the ABS fault light still turns on after about 10 secs. of driving.
Is the ABS fault light supposed to go out immediately any fault is rectified or does the system have to be reset/cleared first (ie battery disconnect etc)?
Thanks.

Thanks guys.
I've been round and cleaned/checked all the other reluctors/sensors and this particular one doesn't look too different. All the teeth are present and there is a gap of about paper-width between them and the sensor.
I did clean out the connector and some corrosive green powder came out, but I've now washed it out with electronic cleaner fluid. The connector pins looks OK as far as I can see - don't seem to have dissolved!
This is not an intermittent fault, once the ABS warning comes on after 10 seconds it always stays on.
I'm worried that I may have cured one fault and now another has shown up. Unfortunately the C1141 code was from the dealer's reader - mine doesn't show body codes. Maybe I should invest in that AutoEnginuity device :-)
Next I'll probably try the reset - after that I'll check the sensor readings at the ABS module.

Another pretty common bug that might cause what you're seeing is a broken wire inside the final wiring section that leads to the sensor. (Once the error light comes on, I think it will stay on until you shut the car down and restart.)
Suggestion for a test: restart the car, but before driving off exercise the steering lock-to-lock and let's see if that induces the error message.

Lock to lock...
Start the vehicle, and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, or right, until it hits the "lock", or end of the turning motion. Then, turn the wheel all the way in the other direction until you reach the other "lock".
Also, underneath all those brake lines under the hood on the front driver side, towards the front of the car, there is a black ABS box that is about 6 inches square and about 2 inches thick (on my 99 XK8 and in the U.S.). Inside that black hermetically sealed box(plastic welded shut) are two tiny soldered connection points. Those two tiny connection points are where the connection is that completes the circuit for the ABS. They are highly prone to failing due to improper amounts of solder, and it sounds like yours has completely failed. Not to worry, you can still drive the car.
At this point you have 4 options:
1) Buy a new unit (black ABS box) MUCHO BUCKS!!!
2) Search this site for the instructions on how to fix the tiny soldered connections. It's on here somewhere, I've watched it. Probably a link to a youtube video.
3) Go completly ghetto and put a piece of black electrical tape over the ABS light
4) Live with it.

Here's one link to the DIY fix. There are others, but this one has pictures.

I did this repair myself and while I was a little nervous about taking a hacksaw to such an expensive part, all went well.
Have been trouble free (no jinx please!) for almost 2 years.
