accordian tube from air box to throttle body
Mechanic recently removed this crusty brittle old thing and now show splits on top side (pictured) and underside.
Been getting "restricted performance" warning and no power over 3000rpm. I believe this is the culprit...(sucking unmetered air after MAF sensor).
Gonna do a quickie wrap with electrical tape to test theory, but need a replacement regardless.
Whats the name of this tube and any clue to the cost ???

Those cracks will indeed cause restricted performance issues once they get large enough....
I replaced ours in October 2012 after I found those same splits in the accordian pleats while cleaning the MAF sensor. It is called the Air Intake Duct. I negotiated the price down to $117. List price was about $140 or so. The part number for our 2006 XK8 was C2N1041....

Thanks for the link, but I have an '01 XK8...I called and asked, but they don't sell the one I need. I'll come up with one, just price conscious...my black electrical tape job is working (for 2 days now) and looks amazingly neat...almost indistinguishable !

Had similar problem on XKR, at the local dealer had chat will storeman and found out that there are at least 2 different items for my 2000MY, the correct numbered one (?) was twice the price of the earlier numbered one (and not for my car) It looked the same so took a chance and bought that one,
Upon fitting it the only difference is that on the throttle body there are 2 bolt tangs and 1 of them did not line up, about 1/2 inch difference.
Its now been on over 12 months and nearly 2000 miles and is still nice and tight (I did change the TB seal as well) so saved some petrol money,
So check out what is available before you buy.

My '87 Alfa spider had a hard rubber tube like that between the MAS and intake and those cost twice as much as the ones for the Jag, I degreased it the best I could and used black roofers silicon on it and even after many years it never failed. The worst ones were on Triumph TR7's like the 1980 I had. They were oval and a different size on each end and odd sizes. And made from unobtainium.

Nice job indeed. I replaced my wife's XK8's worn-out intake air duct with the dealer part in October 2012. Still paid way too much for it even after negotiating the price down. If we keep her car long enough for the accordian section to get brittle and crack again, I'm going to implement your fix. Good luck with it and keep us posted....
