Default Ahhh! My arm....

... my wiper arm that is.

I can't get passenger arm off to save my life!! The car's been in houston for most of its life, not a spec of rust on the undercarriage or suspension, but these retainer nuts were like from a scenen out of Titanic. (I kid you not)

Soaked both with WD-40 and then some Blaster stuff, driver side finally shook loose. Nut is off, but the arm is still stuck to the 'bolt' on the passenger side.

I don't have the fancy extractor as recommended from the JTIS

so I thought someone might have another trick to get this frustrating arm off.

thanks in advance!

Matt, with the arm in the up position I grab it and work the hole thing up and down. This works the part attached to the serrated shaft and has ALWAYS worked for me

A puller is ideal and in most cases the only way to go. A steering wheel puller is similar but you may need to make a plate to go under the arm. I have one but not with it to give you an idea of what it looks like. Look at this one http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...6905000P?mv=rr Wd-40 will not cut the rust like the PB Blaster will. Let It soak overnight and tap the sides of the arm and see in it comes loose. NOTE I SAID TAP!! Not sure how the arm is mounted as to the damage it may cause.

PB Blaster is very good but the BEST stuff is ACF 50 (purple can) or the more readily available marine version, Corrosion Block (blue can) (http://www.nocorrosion.com/corrosion-control.htm).
It will free up stuff that has indeed been left submerged in salt water for months and is badly corroded. The stuff has never let me down. It may not replace the puller but it will eliminate the corrosion.

I had the same problem with my wipers. I went to Autozone and borrowed a puller and popped the wipers off in their parking lot.

Brute force worked after a couple hours of soaking in the blaster. My hand is killing me though from all the vigoroush yanking. (no jokes please)

If you're wondering why I even wanted to do this, well the A/C has a slight musty/damp smell when the system is not in RECIRC mode, so I thought maybe my previous owner had installed a cabin filter, and it was ready for a change.

Result after pulling the plenum -> nothing but a big gaping hole. At least now I know.

The wiper puller is about $7 at any AP store (except NAPA, of course). Takes about 30 seconds to remove the arm. The plastic cap is available at Lowes for about $2 for 2, 7/8" Good dark gray color match.

Already scored 'matching' caps from Lowes when Lew (or Gus, can't remember) sourced the part number. Its almost a perfect color.

You bring up this issue and ive gone 13 years never having this issue.........till today. Couldnt get the passenger arm off a xkr either. So just put the nut on and tap tap tap with a hammer to loosen...came right off....now lets talk about winning the lotto.......

The replacement one from Lowe's is actually better fitting than the OEM one.

What was the part number and what department were the caps in?
