ALERT!!!!!1999-2001 XK MODELS
Just a note to alert you to a situation, that could cause you or someone else, serious harm or death!
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) # P-121 was issued back in 2002 for all 1999-2001 xk models.
The problem can cause your car, while driving normally, at 50, 60, 70 or 100MPH to all of a sudden go into "Restricted Performance" mode and your car looses all power and drops down to approx 15 MPH!!!
Naturally, if you have an 18 wheeler behind you, this is not a good situation.
IT IS NOT A RECALL ITEM!!!!!
Jaguars position as well as the dealers is,
'We don't do anything to repair this shortcoming unless the customer experiences the problem!!!!!!
(Ref: 20226 software mismatch pn 3.0 perform ECM reflash per TSB's Rewire TPS harness at throttle housing due to mismatch pins)
My car was at the dealership PALM BEACH MOTORCARS FOR SERVICE AND REPAIR WORK 4 TIMES, WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AFTER THIS TSB WAS ISSUED!!!
It amazes me that Jaguar can put it's customers in a position like this, with a known defect.
My car experienced this problem at 20,226 miles and the dealer charged $587.03 for the repair.

If you can afford $100K for a car then why are you crying about $500? I've spent over $2K trying to get mine to quite screwing with me and it still isn't right. Mines a '97, stalled at highway speeds on me twice in the last week, and then went to a Dealer to get the TB reflashed under a recall notice.
It doesn't stall anymore but still surges until it's been run a while, then all is well. I have a replacement TB but am tired of going to the garage every week, so I'm just going to let it ride for now.
And my car only cost me $18K!

Just because someone can afford a $100,000 car doesn't mean they should be treated in the fashion Jaguar has treated me. If anything, you would think they would want to keep that $100,000 buyer happy as he more than likely will be buying expensive cars in the future.
It's not the $$$$ amount for the service, it's the dealer and Jaguars attitude, that they really don't care enough about their customers to fix a KNOWN problem that could cause serious injury or death to the driver, as well as other drivers on the road.
I have owned 5 large LEXUS sedans since 2000 and WHENEVER there was a problem, LEXUS stepped up to the plate and made it right. This included a couple instances when the cars were 10,000 to 20,000 miles out of warranty!!
As a matter of fact, they put a complete new am/fm/cd Mark Levinson system in one of my cars, out of warranty, at no charge when the CD quit.
BTW, this defect, more than likely wouldn't cause bodily harm or kill you!

You do have a valid point agstonexkr..........just because someone can afford a $100,000 car.......doesnt't mean that they should rip you a new as*hole and empty your wallet at the same time whilst offering sub std service.
Unfortunately some people accept poor service as well as a genrally poor attitude which means it continues for everyone.
Jag aren't the best at customer service / relations as you have found out.........Just have to deal with it as best you can like the rest of us[&:]

Trust me, I'm not making light of his situation. The second time my car stalled on me was with 18 wheelers bearing down on me too, so I know how it feels.
I had the the car hauled to the Dealer (40 miles one way) on a flat bed truck because I didn't trust it anymore. I understand that with the '98's they just replaced the whole TB. I wasn't so lucky. All they did was "reprogram" mine, whatever that's supposed to mean, because that is all Jag said needed to be done.
Obviously, they were wrong, so at some point I'll have to replace the TB anyway on my own dime. Of course, if the car only had 20K miles on it and cost me $100K, I'd probably a little angrier than I am!

Jack Rabbit,
It's kind of ironic, I had a 1998 Carnval red/Camel XK8 that I traded on the Silverstone. The only two problems I had with the 98 were moisture in the headlights and a bad oil leak which they had to do some major engine work to repair. Fortunately it was still under warranty.

Well, it's like I keep telling everyone. The Carnaval Red XK8 with the camel colored convertible top is the nicest looking car you'll ever see going down the road on the back of a flat bed truck!
Thank God for AAA Plus with the 100 mile tow allowance!
Funny you should mention the oil leak though. I know a retired guy that decided to drop $65K on a new XJ. Yup, oil leak. The car has been at the Dealer's now for two months while he drives one loaner after another. I guess they don't learn from the past at Jaguar.

It's been said, that the only reason the English don't make electronics is they haven't figure out how to make them leak oil. It's also well known that the reason they like warm beer is they have Lucas refigerators!

Trying to alienate the UK in two sentences......
BTW.......I'm Scottish......and I like my beer cold ( Ice ) and my women Hot..and have never heard of a Lucas refrigerator?
If you take that line at the dealer with the service people etc etc I'm sure that they won't be quite so keen to jump through any hoops for you and your vehicle.
