Another XKR goes to heaven

Another XKR goes to heaven
On 12/29, my wife was in accident with her 2003 XKR. She is fine and no one was injured.
However, the car has been deemed a total loss.
I’m taking it pretty bad. I put so much time, and even more money into making that car great. I feel like I’ve been punched in the gut.
We looked at a 2010 XKR yesterday, as a possible replacement, but my wife wasn’t feeling it. So, for now, I don’t think we are going to replace the car soon :-(
Timing is pretty bad on this, as I am awaiting delivery of a 1970 E-Type 2+2 and really wanted to take pics of my 3 Jags. Had this happened prior to buying the E-Type, I may have bought something different, like a Convertible. Sigh.
Oh, well. I will probably have a big sale in the Marketplace with my leftover parts and bits. I have some good stuff that may be of interest to some.
I hope to still visit, but may be on Jag-Lover’s E-Type section more.

Glad to hear that no injuries occurred....
It is truly a shame that we are at the stage now when even a minor accident is likely to total these XK8s / XKRs. My wife still loves hers more than any vehicle she has ever owned. I tell her on a regular basis to enjoy it while she can because if some idiot runs into her now, her car will be history....

If anyone has read my threads, you’ll know the condition of this car. Seats redone along with a-pillars and header. LSI Valve. Rebuilt top latch (hoses already replaced). Mina intake tube. Internal soft rebuild of transmission. New radiator, oil cooler, fuel dampeners, nearly all hoses replaced (I think only valleys have not). Backup camera with Tpms to new stereo. New J-Gate box. Clinate lights replaced. JagWrangler rear window control, Etc...etc...
Reciepts over $20k.
If someone is a parter or a rebuilder, this may be a good one.

Any other damage we can't see
Anything really damaged in the front end suspension, engine, cooling system, etc., or is pretty much front end cosmetics and outer panels?
Any idea what the insurance company would take for it as I'm betting they have it sold to salvage yard for something on the order of $3-4K !! Maybe more.
My daughters run of the mill 2006 Mustang V6 with 156,000+ miles of hard use went to a salvage yard for $1100 so an XKR given rarity and the selling prices for everything under the hood and driveline along with good sheet metal, etc. would clear a salvage yard pretty good money even if they put $4K into it I'd bet.

I think the insurance company was fair given market value. Only way to do better would have been an agreed value policy. Concourse condition the car is $24k. Grade 2, $17k. Given that this was probably a solid grade 2, I can’t realky complain with the valuation. It could have been better, but reality is it could have been a ton worse.

Wow - away for a week and two down
dsd, I'm truly sorry this happened and very pleased that your wife was unhurt.
Probably a little late now, but take a look at Tom Bachur's story - this thread is an aside to the main event but does show before and after. The first picture isn't pretty..

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

Thanks, I’m sure someone can repair it, but not me. I don’t have the energy for it and I think it’s best to put it behind us and move forward.
Not sure what that will be, but I still have 2 Jags. I’d love to add another, but not sure what. I’d love a Series3 XJ6, but I don’t need a sedan, I’m shorty a 4 seat droptop. I’m toting adding a 65-67 Mustang Convertible, but suspect that’s just idle chatter.
Best and thanks for all the well wishes.
