Default Antennae interrupt switch

I had a 91 Corvette that had the same antenna issue these cars do. Anytime the music was turned on the antenna was up, even if you were playing a cassette tape or CD. Someone came out with a cheap kit with a microswitch and wiring
that would interrupt the power wire to the antenna. Thus you could have the antenna up only for the radio and down the rest of the time. I mounted my tiny switch in a vacant screw hole inside the center console. Very clean and it worked as advertised.

Just got my car a couple of months ago and still trying to catch up. Has anyone done this here?

That's what's great about this forum. Good solution to almost any problem. If you have ever tried to change out a power antenna, you never want to do it again. Of course now with the demise of Radio Shack, I guess Pep Boys/O'Reily's will be the only source of the switches?
Now if I can only find the solution to my Starter lockout problem.......

Did my antenna interrupt switch a couple of days ago. I wedged it in between the
drivers side center console molding and the trans tunnel. Carpet holds it in snuggly and
no holes cut anywhere. It was a pain to splice the wires due to tight access but all in all easy.

Thanks again for the links above.

Haha that picture perspective makes the switch look huge. It’s really quite small and hides in the carpet nicely.

I don't get the appeal of having "hidden" switches that are a mystery to the person who ends up with the car later on. To me such switches would add to the "cons" when deciding whether to buy a car. Its probably just my OCD kicking in.

I made my switch extremely easy to find and properly identified such that an average buyer would not think twice about it.

That is a very cool switch, and I was initially going to mount mine in the same place. When the time came I could not
bring myself to cut the tray with another option available. It is totally reversible if someone in the future would rather it not be there. Also I don’t have to reach inside the console while I might be driving to raise the antenna.

Default Put mine in the centre console

Dead easy to do. Put my on/off switch at the back of the centre console.
