ASL Finally Decoded
I have what I believe is 2nd generation radio. When you push and hold the power button in, a menu to set ASL (automatic? sound level) from 1 to 5 (highest level). Permise being it will auto adjust sound level depending on speed.
We've discussed this before, I've had the XK8 for years, never had it work in any way before. I've ignored it.
Now last week I removed the center console electronics to troubleshoot the air conditioning. After reassembly of the job, my 1st good news was the airbag light is gone. I seem to have found benefit (?) #2.
This afternoon I got in the car, selected a favorite album from my phone and fired it up. Sounded fine but wtf - volume was low. I thought oh no, I may have deleted something on my phone that caused this. Ouch, I thought, this should be "fun."
I proceeded to drive to a road with a higher speed limit, clear ahead = full throttle! As soon as she downshifted the volume came up to normal! At first I wondered if it was an alternator thing, then I remembered - I had adjusted the ASL up to 5 this morning for no particular reason.
Well for whatever reason it works now. Unfortunately I'm putting it in the practically useless for me file. It attenuated the sound at low speed/rpm, I thought it was supposed to increase volume over "normal."
Who knows what happened to have this work all of a sudden. Thought you might find this interesting.

I thought American Sign Language (ASL) was already decoded?
It would be cool if Jaguar had ASL for deaf people who drive with the NAV setup?
Might be a distraction to watch the screen for sign language though?
