Default Cup holder flap

It started just popping open at the slightest bump or even when I put my arm on the armrest. The catch looks to be ok so is there a trick? Is it a matter of bending the flap somehow? Trying not to break it!

Yes heres 1. Watch the movement of the latch release button as you close it, as it releases. You'll quickly see that you can stuff a small piece of clear folded plastic under the rear side to keep latch button in up position, providing greatest latch power.

A more elaborate fix is to disassemble the lid and shim the cup holder mechanism with washers to reduce the gap between the flap and the lid/button. I did that and it works well.

Gorilla glue it shut. You can't use the cupholders for anything useful anyway.

I actually commit the sin of using my useless cupholders whenever I end up at a drive-thru. To make sure the contents of the drinks are not spilled, I keep my left hand on the steering wheel while I secure the cups with my right hand. Alternatively, my passenger, if available, secures the cups on the cupholder while I drive. It's not ideal, but it works in a pinch.

Exactly. Where are you to put your right hand? Only two choices. Shift knob, but then you might want to try to shift, jamming your left knee. Other choice is on the cup, protecting your knee and providing opportunities to test/refine your fine motor control in the bends.

"Jamming your left knee?" Am I missing something here? I just keep the hand right hand on the cup. I can drive well enough with only my left hand.
