Default Attn! Experts TMG & Tensioner

Howdy Folks:
I just pulled my driver side cam cover expecting to see a plastic tensioner ready to be replaced. (2002 XKR with~ 60000 mi) Although I thought I had all service records, the following pics are what I saw.

Questions:
  • Isn't that a good to go tensioner? all of that that looks like metal IS metal!
  • What is with the primary chain? Is that stock? I thought that it was supposed to be a roller chain, but this is a silent chain with silent sprockets!
  • I have not pulled the passenger side yet,but I expect to see the same. Should I be elated, or is this just run of the mill stock for my year.
  • If this does not look good to go, please tell me. I'm not putting the covers on till I know for sure
Thanks for any info

I suspect that if you researched the engine manufacture date you would find that it was produced in Feb 2002 or later. Jaguar upgraded both the tensioners in August '01 and the chains in Feb '02 to the soon to be released '03 engine specifications. But still a 4.0L.

Congratulations!

If this is a trend, you may as well go and buy some lottery tickets.

Is that primary chain a better chain? Or, just quieter?

Man are you lucky. If I'm not mistaken you have the very latest design that I thought was only in the 4.2 L engine. Yes the primary chain is much better. I believe it is called a Morse chain. And the tensioners are all of the latest design.

Put the cam cover on and go drive that sucker. Have fun you lucky guy.]]
