Default Battery Specs. H8 vs H9 install

Time to replace the old Bosch H8 from 2019 soon. Looked like similar physical sizes and the H9 is superior in capacity to the H8 and only a bit longer(+1.1" total or 40 total, 20mm each end), same width & height. Appears the hold down strap will accommodate the longer H9. Has anyone physically installed the H9 and will it sit down in the cavity with no obstruction? only 1/2" on each end. Will extra length pose an install problem?
H8 Battery (Group 49)
  • Dimensions: Around 13.9" L x 6.9" W x 7.5" H (354x175x190mm).
  • Capacity: Usually 80-95 Ah.
  • CCA: Around 850-950 CCA.
  • Best For: Mid-size to large vehicles, good for standard large battery trays.

H9 Battery (Group 95R)
  • Dimensions: Longer than H8, around 15" L (394mm).
  • Capacity: Often 95-105 Ah or higher.
  • CCA: Typically 950 CCA or more.

Happy New Year

Update: The AGM H8 Bosch as purchased in January 2019 at Pep boys. I have used a maintainer since purchase and unplugged the connector , waited 24 Hours and checked the battery voltage at under hood fuse box next to the ABS unit and it read 12.7V. this AM. Appears the Battery will provide good service or a longer time that I suspected. Will keep close check on it.

That is indeed a long time for a Bosch AGM battery to last. Well done....

Recent test and still reads 12.62V after 72 hours with no maintainer. Guess I will delay any thoughts of replacement and due to scarcity of H9 sources, stick with H8 AGM.. Amortized for time, great value.

The factory H8 battery in my 2014 XJR lasted over 10 years. I only replaced it because I had never had a battery last anywhere close to that long. With the battery mounted in the trunk and away from the engine compartment and all that heat and vibration they can last a long time.

Purchased the car in Dec.2014, still had the OEM Varta Battery. After 2 weeks it died and being a newbie, got a Advance Auto H8. It died in January 2019 and the Bosch has done great. Thanks for the replys.

Voltage testing is not enough to know if a battery is good. Load test when it is at full voltage. There are inexpensive tools to perform this test.
