Default Boot plinth is falling

My boot plinth decided to come loose from the right side, so now it's dangling from one side.

How do I remove it?

Take the carpet out from under the trunk lid, look inside you will see 4 x 8mm hex nuts, you will probably find one of the bolts has rusted, swelled and broken the plastic, I have loads of them laying around

You will need to remove a couple of screws that hold on the carpet in the inside of the boot lid. You will then be able to access the bolts that hold the plinth on. Mine was cracked & I was able to repair the first time. Then about a year later it was too damaged to repair. Ordered a new one from the dealer. Problem is that they come primed in grey & you will need to take it to a body shop to get it painted to your color. Mine is solid as a rock now. Make sure when closing the boot lid that you don't push on the the plinth in effect using it as a handle. Over time, that will damage it. Use the handy leather strap on the inside of the lid to close it.

Just as a point of reference not all XKs have the pull down handle and the warning triangle was an optional extra...... Not sure how that works on US cars but I know it does apply to the one sitting in my shop at the moment, funnily enough his plinth was cracked and damaged too so I changed it for another, must be something to do with the amount of sun, this particular XK from what I can ascertain originally came from Florida, it always puzzled me why you guys from over the pond always complain about the plastics, now I have had experience I understand, we don't have those issues, well no where near as bad!

I wonder if this is a good time to upgrade to a newer chrome plinth instead.

I know, I think it involved drilling two holes...

Either way, what's the price for a boot plinth?

Ouch! Can they be found cheaper on ebay?

Is it the same price for the body colored plinth?

On ebay I would expect to pay about $75 for a good one.

pretty sure the earlier plinths like yours are much the same price for new, if they are still available, I will do you one for $75 shipped, I don't have any green ones but plenty of others, I do have a later painted one from an R some where

Uh... my car's black, I think Anthracite is the name of the color.

That's awesome Tony. Much appreciated.

I'm wondering, which ones do you have available?

I might have a black-ish one, I know the later type one I have is either anthracite or black, it is from my 2004 XKR

Must be the lighting or my phone's crappy camera, but my car is definitely black. The color code is PED.
