Brakeperformance.com?
Hi - has anybody had any experience buying/using products from Brakeperformance.com?
I am still looking for a source to get front brake pads/rotor set to replace mine - 03 XKR plain rotor w/ stock Brembo. I am leaning very heavily towards Hawk HPS - heard lots of good things about it. I heard some good things about Akebono - but can't find front pads for XKR.
But then I spotted the company in question - their products look ok - and there are some positive feedback on other car forum (namely BMW).
I am going to call SNG Barrat as well - looks to be a very reputable Jag parts dealer - plus there are a few suggestions from other members too ....

Hi Dan,
I have no exprience with akebono pads and on top of that they have also different pads, so which one is was used on the Nissan, and which one do you use?
Next to that the braking power is also a combination of factors (disc amongst others), so a pad could work well in 1 combo, but less in another. Dot 3 in a heavy performance car? Well maybe if you need to break only once, but heavy successive breakings? Not a right combo imho.
So far I can highly recommend Hawk Ceramics, best combo in performance/low dust on brembo brake system, and am on my 3rd set, and planning also my 4th one.

The local dealer in my area (Charles Maund Jag) stock Akebono for 03-06 XKR.
BTW - it's actually not the first time that Nissan was singled out for brakes. 'Car and Driver' did an article about braking - among the worst performers were Infiniti GX and 350Z .... Can't find the exact date of the magazine issue though ....
I found the Hawk HPS pad on Amazon - going to use my gift certificate to get them. The rotors now are btw Brakeperformance rotor, Barrat or Eurospare from Autopartwarehouse.

I am very pleased with my Akebono pads. They really, really provide outstanding braking power. Being silent and dust free is a bonus.
I don't know how they'd hold up under true extreme use but for street use, I'd recommend them.
Oddly, though, they give a sorta soft feel to the pedal. I've heard this from others as well. Strange.
Cheers

Hi Andre,
I hope you are doing well and driving very fast!
Very correct. The tone of the Akebono post I was responding to was "don't use Akebono because Car & Driver ..."
I actually ordered Hawks originally, but they couldn't seem to figure out what front brake pads go on my 00 XKR. Their catalog listed the wrong type. I returned the wrong Hawks and bought the Akebonos.

Hi Dan,
How is life in texas, (and the car if I may ask?)
Al is going very wel thanks, and we finaly have a very good summer overhere, fantastic weather driving with the roof down, will shovel some extra carbons later today, as it seems to workout here
It is still a great joy (word of warning: addictive) to have the extra power, even when you don't have to use it (rarely of course).
When I needed good dust free pads in 2005 (had to ditch the bad performing Red Stuffs), there was not much choice for the brembo brake system, however the good thing was that our calipers/pads looked like the Ferrari F40s, and Hawk had these. Here are the correct Hawk part no's: Fronts HB193F.670 AND Rears HB194Z-570.
The best performing pads I used in terms of braking power where Pagid RS 4.2.1, but hard to remove black dust. Also the Ferrodo DS2500 seem to have very good braking power. EBC recommended the Yellow stuf to me after I mentioned my Red Stuff experience, and on paper I also think these will perform very well, but as they would dust more again I choose the Hawks.

The car is fine, but starting to show some age. (And then there are the hundreds of hail dimples.)
I will take a look at the Hawks again when I need a set ... though I was just looking at their catalog and still, neither of the dimensions they show for the '00 XK8 or XKR fronts look like my non-Brembo, 325mm pads. I may have to send them pictures and see if they can fix their catalog.
