Default Burled Walnut - Did you ever look closely?

You know, this is so cool I just had to share it. The other day, my girlfriend causually mentioned the "Jaugar", an image in the burled walnut above the glove compartment. Now I know there is no Jaguar leaper trademark on that pannel so I looked at her like "huh?" and she realized I had no idea what she was talking about.

She said, "oh I saw this months ago, take a look", then she pointed to the burl design on the left side of the panel above the glove compartment. I then saw what she meant imediately. The burl design created by nature looks so much like a Jaguar facing you head on, paws and all, that I wondered how I missed it. This image is enhanced by the fact that the panel I mentioned is flanked by a mirrored/matched pannel to the panel on its left.

This was clearly luck, but then these veneers are typically 0.02 inches thick, which tells me there are few dozen 1998 XK8's have nearly identical veneers out there. Who knows for other years. If you are like me you are probably so busy driving you never really looked, give it a scan its just plain fun to find something like this.

Hey if we find a few more, we can start an urban legend . . . happy hunting.

I read a similar post about seeing patterns in the veneer a few months ago but I can't find the thread. I do recall it had a photo!

Back in the day we use to see patterns like this in most everything while enjoying a little chemical recreation!

Default Graham, that was me

I have a post where I pointed out that my dash veneers create a Rottweiler staring at the passenger where the glove box and center gauge veneers meet. If you zoom in...way...in...on my member photo you can just make it out.

Just zooming in, with my imagination, it looks like the big cat face on. Regardless, it looks like a great conversation piece. I think I will go gaze at mine to see what appears.

My wife's Victory Edition model has the gorgeous Elm veneer dash. I went outside and stared at the woodwork for a couple of minutes. I don't see the big cat face. I don't see Elvis. But if the sun is just right and I squint a little, I swear I see the prone profile of Pee Wee Herman....

Jon, not what comes to mind when looking a at Jaguar. It's early, did you cut the lava light off before you went outside. LOL (Good Morning)

Default There is a dog on mine

Now that you mentioned it, I checked and lo and behold, I've got some sort of squinting wolf and something else I'm not entirely sure of in the passenger airbag panel. Zoom in at the far right.

without question, the one on the left is almost a left profile of an Eagle----beak, eyeball, feather crown at top of beak.
The one on the right-----------whatever.
It's amazing what one see's after a few "mar-toon-es".................
