If the compressor does not engage when the A/C is turned on then you are either low on refrigerant or your pressure safety switch has failed. You will require A/C gauges to test.
Thank you all. I don’t hear anything engaging when I turn on the A/C. Will work on getting gauge readings. Thinking AutoZone will have one I can borrow.
More to come. Just put 100 miles on it this afternoon with the better half. Didn’t need a/c. Just lots of smiles.
if you run low on fluid. the system will shut off for self protection. the fluid contains the oil so the compressor wont run dry.
not sure how you handle it where you live, but first you should go to a garage and suck all the rest fluid out. then set the system under pressure for leak detection. if there is no obv. leak: let them fill up the system to spec amounts. last step: spit on the fill-connectors and look for a leak there (you can change the valves if do but first empty the system again …).
The easiest check is turn the AC on an turn the set temperature down. Does AC come on then? If it does then check the temperature of the small outlet tube for heat. If it is hot then check the return tube, the larger one which should be cold. If it isn't then check to see if the compressor is on and if it isn't then you're probably low on refrigerant. Add some you can a can of the proper refrigerant and a simple filler tube. If you add refrigerant and the compressor comes on you know it was low but then you have check for leaks which usually is obvious because escaping refrigerant carries compressor oil with it. If it's not obvious take to shop that has the tools to check and repair. Good luck!
Sorry for the slow replies everyone. This is our toy and I have to store it outside of my home. So even when the weather is nice, it still doesn’t get driven everyday.
Drove it yesterday and played with CC. The compressor does nothing when the A/C button is pushed. No change in engine activity like something was engaging or trying to.
I’m going to try to refill the refrigerant as suggested. Hoping that the low level disengaged the compressor switch and refilling will bring it back.
Bought a can of coolant with the gauge, and it jumped to red. Here’s a pic. Connected while the car was running and a/c on full with recirculating on.
So it looks like I’ve got a high pressure reading with no compressor running. Tempted to add coolant to see if the compressor kicks on, but everything tells me not to.
I wouldn't add any. Something may end up bursting. Your compressor is not engaging. I'd rather figure out why it's not engaging instead of trying to brute force it.
First start by checking A/C fuses and relays. It may be as simple as a tripped fuse. If the fuses and relays are good, then use an multimeter to check if the compressor is receiving power. Since it's been sitting, it might be possible that some animal chewed through the wiring? If all the electrical stuff is good, I would suspect a compressor clutch failure. I doubt the system is overfilled if you haven't added any and it's been sitting, I don't think an under-filled system would give you a high reading on the gauge, would it?

Do not add refrigerant/coolant ! Your pressure reading is correct for a system without the compressor running. As has been said - you need to investigate the wiring/fuses/relay etc to find out why the compressor clutch is not engaging.
The resistance reading of the compressor clutch coil should be less than 10 ohms

Reason: add clutch info
