Question Can I make a pre 2001 front buckle work with a 2003 XKR seat? (2 vs 3 wire setup)

Hello everyone.

A few days ago my 2003 XKR's driver side buckle disintegrated. I tried to put it back together but it actually broke to smaller pieces and now it is not repairable.
I bought an aftermarket buckle that I thought was compatible (there are many cheap ones in eBay) but it seems that they are compatible only with older models and not with newer XKRs (100). The original one's cable has 3 wires (Red, White, Yellow) while the after market comes with 2 (Red & Black) and a different connector. Doing some research I saw that the aftermarket is similar to older models.

Is there a way to make it work or should I find an original one (discontinued and can't seem to find online second hand).

Also will it work if I do not attach the warning cable or is there a way I can connect or short circuit of the old wires to the new connector so there are no fault lights and still have airbags etc working?

Thanks in advance for your help...

I am attaching a pic of the new aftermarket buckle:

And one similar to my 2003 XKR that I need...

ARM series RCM needs to know if the seatbelt is buckled to fire the pretensioners and is always monitoring the circuit.

early cars ignore the buckle switch unless you’re outside of america

Looking at the wiring diagram it says the "seat belt switch" uses a hall effect sensor. I doubt you can easily or safely replace that sensor with whatever piece of Chinese crap is inside that buckle. Do yourself (or your passenger) a favour and get an OEM buckle from a breaker.

Most of the Wrecking Yards have heard this Story and are charging up to $300.00 just for the Buckle Part...(Used)! I sure wish Someone would come up with an answer to this problem!

Please let us know if you have found a work-around! Also, has anyone found a way to take the Buckle apart without breaking it? That would be a great way to fix the problem! The Glue is so strong that it breaks the Plastic Buckle.....Any ideas?

Hey Billy, how you doing.
Best way is to hacksaw through the centreline and superglue the shells onto the existing stalk.

This is one of those parts where we need someone to make a CAD file of so that it can be 3D printed.

Is anyone willing to do this?

sossybaby & Pistnbroke,

Thanks for the idea! I bought one of the Belts from some Junk Yard in San Franciso for $300.00! Now I see that I have to remove the Seat to make the switch....With sossybaby's suggestion I will be able to just switch the cover!

Thanks very much!

"Puerto Rico" why haven't you done this? A "Good Dentist" should be able to cast a "Plastic Buckle Cover" It could make you some Money!!

Hi guys just a heads up, finally I bought a pair of original used ones (to have a backup in case the other breaks too) from http://autoreservejaguar.com and everything works fine now...
