If it STARTS then DIES, you are likely to have a fuel feed issue. A subset of DTC's intentionally have the effect of putting the vehicle into "reduced performance" or "limp home" mode but the engine will usually continue to run in these circumstances.

You have fitted a matching engine sourced from a 99 XKR and not a later iteration of the V8?

Odd that a scanner won't clear codes as even the most basic normally do this. Perhaps Jaguar SDD is going to be required to troubleshoot this.

In case there are particular kinds of faults, when you clear the DTCs they will immediately occur again. The result can be that you think the codes didn't clear.

The XKR was introduced in the US for MY 2000. Possibly your car was manufactured in 1999 but the US considers it a 2000MY. (AJ27)

The XJR engines 1998 and 1999 are AJ26 and are not 'Plug & Play'. (many differences)

If you needed a replacement engine, your car requires an AJ27 from a 2000 to 2002 XKR or a 2000 to 2003 XJR 4.0.

The AJ26 will require many 'modifications' to work in your car.

Remember, our cars will report a P1000 immediately after a reset to indicate the OBDII monitors have not cleared. Even a "healty" OBDII status will report P1111.

Sometimes a hard reset will take a little more than just discon battery. I usually clip the post and neg bat leads together OR clip the neg to the positive terminal over night. When I started my XK8 after engine swap and messing around with O2 sensors car would die too, at first, until I got the advice from these dudes and did a REAL reset. Then the car worked to find it's new baseline as is supposed to. The jarring new info from the new motor and bits was too much for the ECU, I figure...

The O2 sensors shouldn't stop the car running, while the crank sensor will. I would worry about the good-ness of the new crank sensor of course, but not the code clearing so much. I'm sure you want to be able to read NEW codes tho, as you progress...

Dude, if ya ended up getting sold a not as described engine, I'm sorry to hear that. That's a real bummer. Damn suppliers!

The CKPS segments on the torque converter drive plate and CMPS reluctor count on the intake cam(s) are DIFFERENT.

This AJ26/AJ27 swap and difference has been discussed REPEATEDLY on this forum.

You will get faults logged if you try to run a different engine in a car with an ECM properly configured to THAT CAR. (usually CKPS/CMPS relationship)
The AJ26 engine will not work in the AJ27 car (and vise versa) without many swaps/modifications.
