Default Carfax info, surprising

Did the carfax on my 97 xk8 and foudn that there were several, 3 or 4 reports of the THROTTLE BODY being cleaned. I find that odd that it was done that much , much less reported to carfax. Can I clean it myself? If so, with what?

There were several issues with the TBs of the '97/'98 cars none of which were fixed by cleaning. May have been wishful thinking on the part of a dealer.

The TB can be easily cleaned using a product designed specifically for that. Do not use a 'carburetor' cleaner.

There is an excellent pictorial on another forum on the process. http://tiny.cc/7U3Ip Under 'ARTICLES'

Do I remember correctly that there is a free replacement on the TBs for early model cars, but must be done by the end of 09???

You are correct Lew, that is if it has the correct vin# and you get it before the end of December. If you elect not to have it checked by that date it could be a $2000.00 mistake!

Per the Service Action S514 doc, a '97 XK8 appears to qualify only for a ECM Reprogram vs. Throttle Body Replacement. Still can't beat FOC...

From a door sticker, I see my (recently acquired) '97 XK8 had "S819-Reprogram ECLC 3-8-99 for misfire detection." ECLC related to ECM? Sounds like a ingition control deal. Sorry, I gotta lot to learn...
