Smile Chirp when locking car

I have two Jags. One is the 2000 XK8 and the other is the 95 XJ6. When I lock the XJ6 I get this neat little chirp chirp. Same when I unlock it and the interior lights come on. With the XK8 none of these neat things happen. No neat little chirp chirp. Is it not supposed to do that or do I have something not working.

Thanks guys.

I have a 96 XJ6 and a 2000 XK8. They appear to behave the same using the remote with the chirps and lights, except the XK8's chirps are a bit quieter. I haven't had it very long, so I can't help with how to change the settings.

I had a '97 XK8 and it never made a sound. My '04 chirps once when I lock it and that's it. No more chirps if you press lock again.

My 2002 XKR chirps twice when I lock it but it's a pretty weak chirp. I plan on replacing the chirper (or whatever it's called) as soon as I get a chance.

My '98 XK8 chirps when locking and unlocking. Sometimes I can't hear the locking chirp if there's traffic noise. Not a fault of the car but I have developed "moderate to severe" high frequency hearing loss, a side effect of both chemo and "maturity."

The sounder can be enabled/disabled in the Dealer Options part of Setup and Configuration software used by the Jaguar dealer.

If replacing the sounder does not fix the issue, it might be DISABLED in the SLCM software.

Mine is quiet also, and a friend has a XK8 and it's the same way I think you'd be wasting your time and money trying to replace it with an original. Also it chirps twice.

Many times when walking behind the car I've had to turn around and check for the taillights to flash as I unlock and lock doors again. If I'm walking in the front of the car I can hear the chirp. Jack

My hazard lights flash once along with one chirp when locking. Both lights and chirp twice when unlocking.

Are there aftermarket chirpers that would be a little louder? This is not a hugh issue but I would like it louder if possible.

Watch out, this same issue came up a couple of years ago, and the guy who wanted the loud chirp was demeaned as not being a real Jaguar kind of guy.

With my other vehicles, there was always a very quick beep from the horn, which you could hear very well.

With my Jag, I get a very low volume chirp that you can only hear when you are right next to it, and it won't chirp again when you press the button.

You need to get out and press the button immediately, not when you are walking off, or you may not hear it.
