OK,good Jag people,please help,this is the second time this has happened.
Just had 2 new tires fitted in 104 degrees today in California,phew.got 2 miles down the road and boom there goes restricted performance and check engine light.This happened earlier this year when I had 2 other new tires fitted.My code reader shows P1000,P0174 and P0171.last time It happened I erased them to see what would happen.We had 3,000 + happy miles.So this time I erased them again,drove 100 miles,Filled up with Fuel,went 2 miles and boom there are the codes again.What is going on.Ive checked all hoses and they look fine,fuel cap is on correct,could it be the heat?is it something to do with the sensors on the wheels.Please help.The Wifey is taking it for a 5 hour drive again next week,and Im feeling a little nervous.

 

The P0171 and P074 are saying both cylinder banks are sensing a lean condition. Check the FAQ Sticky at the top of the XK8 forum for the P codes list. It provides a check list of things that could cause it. The tire store didn't attempt to sell you an air filter did they? Disturbing the air intake is about the only link I can think of to a tire change. The accordion section of the air filter to throttle body duct tends to split because of being right above the hot exhaust manifold. Check it for cracks on the lower side.

 

dear test point thankyou for the quick reply.OK I must be going blind I cannot find the Sticky for the P codes.And I will check the the section of pipe from air filter to throttle tomorrow.

you're being led in the right direction by testpoint, calibrit...if both banks show lean, you've got too much air.

There are many vacuum lines around the intake and throttle body, be thorough and take your time.

If every single one checks out, cleaning the Mass Air Flow sensor would not damage anything...in the FAQ, there is a link on how to do this safely.
