Question Code reader confusion

I already have a cheapy OBDII reader but would like something more sophisticated which will read, in particular, ABS codes.
My question is that AutoEnginuity have a Jaguar package for just over £400 ($650) but I've seen on Ebay someone offering an SDD IDS cable/reader + software for less than a quarter of the AutoEnginuity device.
I appreciate that one is 'the genuine article' and the other is probably third/fourth/fifth party but I'm confused as to which is better for a hobby mechanic.
The AutoEnginuity is expensive but am I not comparing like with like?

Do you have a ebay guarantee in the UK? It might be worth a try if you can get your money back. I have the Autoenginuity Jag package, but if I didn't I would be tempted.
