Buy a used or rebuilt pump and put it in yourself. Otherwise take your car to an independent Jag expert. Dealerships are not the place to get your top or pump fixed.... As you are finding out. gordo

PS: Lose the CAPS

I found one by searching for used auto parts. Paid $150 after several at up to $800.

Check the by-pass valve and fluid level first.

I've lost three long posts trying to address your issue. Kicks me completely out of the site.

Anyway, hopefully you have found the pump by now. By-pass valve is the brass 'T' handle on the trunk side of the pump body. Closed is clockwise. You want it closed. Open is for manually raising/lowering top. Check fluid level also. Should be about an inch from the top. It is marked but difficult to see.

If you really have a pump problem, which I do not believe you do, I have one I will give you for the shipping charges. It has a bad solenoid due to a previous owner tearing off the electrical connector and will require your reservoir as the used one I bought leaked.

Way too low!

The two horizontal lines on the side of the reservoir are the MAX/MIN fill lines.

If you paid someone to fix the top latch they should have left the reservoir properly filled. Otherwise, Pentosen CHF 11S hydraulic fluid available at NAPA for $17 a liter. Fill with a turkey baster from the Dollar Store and $0.50 of plastic tubing from a hardware store. Requires a small diameter tubing.

Yes, I saw the picture and the fluid level is way too low! Might not be the problem but should be corrected first to eliminate the issue. Any signs of leaking oil?

That hydraulic line goes down the driver side behind the fuses, so it is very likely that the leak could show up around the OBD2 port. If you are not familier with the top hydraulics, I suggest you take it to a repair shop that has experience with them.

Go to my web page and select Roof Hose Repair and see if that helps.

Hi Gus. Thanks for your pics on the top hose replacement. As you can see this is a common problem and anyone wanting to replace the complete hose should view your photos before beginning the project. BTW, I am beginning to think total replacement is a much better fix. This thread is case in point. He notes the leak is in the general area of the splice. I would not be surprised if the splice itself was the problem Hopefully he only needs to tighten the couplings.

Did you resolve your Restricted Performance warning text?

Gordo
