Default Is this the correct IC for me?

I have a cluster part no LJD4300KC/101 dated 13/11/2000. I am looking to find one for my 2005 XKR, because I blew up the original (as noted in a different thread...). I am running, temporarily, with a 1999 XK8 unit.

I am aware that this cluster would need to be checked out and the program changed - this is already organised. However, I would like to determine if the cluster is exactly right: my vehicle has Adaptive Cruise Control, and I am keen that the replacement has the ACC distance warning light. If it is the right one I'll just send it away for reprogramming.

So, the question is - please offer your thoughts - would this one have the appropriate circuitry and warning symbol built in, even though it may not have been used? Alternatively, if I open it up, would I be able to spot the warning symbol by eye - and if it is there, would that imply the presence of the associated circuitry?

Thanks for this.

Default Update!!!!

I have stripped the IC and held the black dial panel up to the light. The panel does show the adaptive cruise control symbol. Unhappily, there is no corresponding LED behind it, so this particular unit doesn't have that feature activated. I presume the difference between the two is more than just a missing LED??.

So maybe someone can point me towards how to identify an IC which will be acc-ready? Tough one, I know.

How did you make out with the guy who "fixed" your fried unit but sent you this?

Sorry, I can't answer the question, but a breaker may have the correct IC (?).

I wish you the best, and sorry you are having these issues.

Thanks, dsd! Rather than duplicate things, I have explained the 'final' position in the other thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rt-car-183347/

Although mobile, my main focus now is to try to get an IC with adaptive cruise control circuitry and warning lights, which is what this thread is all about! And does anyone know whether the XJ8 cluster is the same? It looks the same, and there were, I believe, adaptive cc versions.

Hi Diddion,
I'm afraid that unless the replacement unit bears the same part # as the damaged one, the outcome will be a crapshoot. C2N3091 for your car, or C2N3093 calibrated in Km instead of miles.

If you can live with the compromise you have now, I'd recommend that you continue to search for a either matching part number unit or someone who can repair the original.

Adapting an older unit might be possible: equally it might not, and you could spend a lot of money finding that out.

Just my ...

Thanks, Michael, this is very handy information. I don't think there will necessarily be a problem with a unit having a different part number - I am running, at the moment, with 1999 XK8 cluster which was reprogrammed.
It is the adaptive cruise control dashboard lights that exercise me! Would part number C2N3091 be adaptive cruise control ready (or are they all?)

And is there somewhere where I can see the part number - I can't work out how to locate it.

I do have a 'spare' module, for an early supercharged vehicle (late 2000). Interestingly, if I look through the black dial screen I can see the acc symbol. However, there is no led behind the symbol - just a blank connector. Since there is (obviously unused) electronics connected with that LED socket, I wonder whether everything is there, other than the LED itself. If that is the case, maybe there is a chance that putting an LED in place just might do the trick......no?

Are US and UK IC's interchangeable (besides km vs mph graphics)?

In the US, many breakers include vin of donor. You can check that vin from Ford:
https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

Adaptive Speed Control is a called out option-- I checked my vin (with it) and another without and it lists it for me and not the other. Not sure if etis does non us cars though.

Best of luck!

Very interesting suggestion. I put my own car in, and the information is absolutely right - so this appears to be an international database! Other than ebay.com, can you suggest any breakers?

Anyone know whether there would be calibration problems should I fit a US IC into a UK vehicle, and maybe is this something the reprogrammer would automatically sort.

I use Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market (they even have an iPhone app). It searches a ton of us breakers. Under electrical, search speedometer and/or instrument cluster. There were a few listed.

Best!

Only thing I can think of is the fuel consumption figures given the difference between the US and Imperial gallon. JEPC gives the above numbers for the IC without any market distinction, but also mentions dealer programming so perhaps that takes care of the conversion. I doubt that there would be a different unit for every variance.

Not sure where the part # would be. Most parts I've come across have it either stamped on or on a label, but sometimes it's a mfrs number (like with the ABS module) and not Jaguar's.

Where missing indicators are concerned, it might not just be the indicator, it might be the drive circuit as well (as cat_as_trophy mentioned), and then the microcomputer program might not know how to deal with it. Just too many variables, and without access to Jaguar's proprietary information...

Still not getting anywhere on this!

There seems to be a plethora of different ICs around, both for XK8 and XKR. I am (reasonably) confident that I can have any one of these working in my vehicle, after suitable reprogramming. However, I wonder if any of the identification numbers on the stickers will identify whether that particular cluster was fitted with adaptive cruise control or not. If you can cast light on the cluster reference numbers it would be of real use - dismantlers don't seem to have any idea, at least in the UK

Thanks, David

Default Progress!!!

I have just been in contact with a UK company which specialises in Jaguar parts - name of the company is Eurojag. They have an IC which bears exactly the same identification as my dead cluster. I have purchased this and should receive it in a couple of days time - I hope that the same ID will mean it does have adaptive cruise control.......I'll report back.

Wish me luck!

If it is indeed a matching-numbers part then you're in with a shout.

Good luck!

Default PROGRESS!!! Current State of Play - Promising!

I have received the IC from Eurojag today......yes, it does have the LED behind the adaptive cruise control symbol, so I am now half way there, I hope. It had been tested and was working (so Eurojag said), but when it arrived all of the dashboard lights were broken. Not blackened, or anything, just broken filaments and open circuit.

I think this is an age issue, perhaps the jostling during transit could have finished them off, so I am not too worried about it right now. Eurojag have provided a guarantee with it so, if it is indeed faulty, they will replace it for me - they do have another of the same series.

I have changed the dial pointers over to those with black centres (the one which arrived had chrome centres) to match the original.

So the next stage is to send it back to Autotronics, who will reprogram it for me. I'll be doing this on Friday, so perhaps a week or so later I'll have some good news..........

Default Hooray! Raise a glass for me! Success at last!

The end of the saga. As reported here and on other threads I blew up my IC and had all sorts of problems trying to source a replacement. I have been running with a faulty non- supercharged cluster, with no-functioning handbrake 'on' message, beep and light, and no adaptive cruise control.

Today I received the reprogrammed cluster back from Autotronics (who came up with the goods in the end); this was purchased from Eurojag.

I wasted no time fitting it, making repeated checks that the battery was disconnected and hadn't surreptitiously reconnected itself. The odometer reading is correct, and everything works- oh joy! All warning lights function as they should, adaptive cc light works just one dashboard illumination lamp,to be replaced.

Thanks to all who gave advice and support as this sorry tale unfolded.

Glad you got there.
I spotted this earlier, and raised a glass (...er several, actually, as we flew up for a concert at Haydock)

Out of curiosity, has the fuel sender issue also gone away?

No idea - I haven't refuelled as yet, but I'd be willing to take a bet on it still being there. I'll report back to this thread when I have more info.

Cheers! Glad you enjoyed your refreshments at Haydock!
