Default Cost to replace lower ball joint?

What would the going rate at an indy shop be to replace the front passenger lower ball joint? And what tools and how many hours is about the average? Thanks!

My mechanic is having an issue with how to separate the lower ball joint from the knuckle and then how to separate it from the lower control arm?

Jaguar sells the front rear lower control arm as an assy. (with the ball joint).

The problem with the lower arm is the outer section is cut at an angle and holding it while the ball joint is pressed in might be difficult.

I thought about making an angle jig/plate with a locating pin to hold it flat in the press. A shallow hole in the arm would keep it from sliding.

The ball joint is a standard taper fit so the regular removal procedure from the vertical link is required ('pickle fork', a BFH or an air hammer).

I have replaced XJ8 lower ball joints but not XK8.

This can be a pig of a job, my first ball joint splitter broke trying to split it.

Once you do have it free and get the old one out of the control arm then you do need a special tool or jig to get the new one in.

There is no way this job could have been done in an hour on my car.

Remove the old one like this after cutting off the flange.

Getting the new one in is tricky as you need to make a tool.

When I said no special tools I must admit I took my press for granted, but I do not press the new ball joint in, I simply use a large deep reach socket over the top, hold the arm in a vice and tap it in with a hammer, I have done dozens like this with no probs at all.....

In all the years I have been doing this I have never fitted a standard bush, always been poly, which is very much easier than the OE of course the downside is you will have to do both sides

Thanks for the tip, I will try that if I ever need to do it again on this car.
