Default Dashboard squeak

XK8 Convertible 2004. Well I thought it was a dashboard squeak. It would come and go. I dismantled the dashboard, central console, removed vents, dismantled the doors, etc. just could not find. So I let it get worse. Eventually I tracked it down. It seemed to be coming from the LH front end. I opened the bonnet and had my wife push the LH front suspension up and down whilst I listened all around teh engine bay. Finally my ear picked up the sound coming from the top of the shock absorber strut. At the top of the strut there is a tiny hole. I squirted CRC in the hole and the squeak has gone. I could have sworn it was a dashboard squeak. But no! If you have a squeak check your struts.

The first time I heard it I chased the noise at the top of the windscreen convertible top latch area and then decided it must be the dashboard.
Finally found the top damper mounts worn/noisy.
Jaguar did address the wing stabilizer bars transferring squeaks to the firewall area.

If you wish to fix it for good, drop me a private message.

Exactly! I had the same problem on my recently purchased 2000 xk8. I had already determined that the strut mounts needed to be replaced but I didn't link the irritating dashboard squeak to the off center position of the shock mount. After digging around in the dash and driving for miles on rough roads I realized that the squeak event was directly related to flexing of the right front suspension. Dug out the wd40 and soaked the shock mount, the bushing, and down thru the little hole. Instant relief!! I guess I'd better go ahead and order the new bushings. Gonna keep that can of wd40 in the boot.
