Dead Steering Wheel - Cancellation Cassette Module

Dead Steering Wheel - Cancellation Cassette Module
Hello Folks
Seeking some help and guidance here.
Some time ago everything on my steering wheel went dead. I checked fuses and thru research I cannot figure out if there is a fuse that powers ALL cruise, stereo controls, horn, phone button (which I do not use)... Basically powering the wheel controls... Actually, finding fuses for individual components (less horn) proves impossible.
Today, I tore apart the steering column thinking that I might find a frayed, damaged or pulled apart plug,,, nothing. BUT,,, I found a 'thing' that I had never seen before or knew existed. The CANCELLATION CASSETTE MODULE (see link)...
Does anyone have experience with these things? I can find them on line (and will purchase if) but was hoping I might get pointed in a few troubleshooting directions before spending the $$60-70-80 bucks and/or hear peoples opinions.
GIANT thanks in advance for any suggestions and answers...

If you take a file and file the corner off all the way around you will find either a ribbon cable coiled up loosely so that when you turn the coil tightens up or loosens up further . The soldier points at either end of the coil breaks and can be stripped down a little and resoldered .
The other style has wiper brushes on several rings that can be cleaned up with a pencil eraser .
After the repair you can epoxy the corner you filed off back up .

HI... Thank you.
So I had the part out today. It is the ribbon sort. When you say file, do you mean the back or the front of the part? The plastic cylindrical portion? Where exactly? Is it known to fail and is it PROBABLE that this is my problem considering ALL and everything on the wheel failed?
Very grateful. Sorry to bomb ya with questions
