Door will not stay open!
Passenger door in my 2003 XK8 when opened does not click into place and hold open, unlike the driver's door which works fine. Means that any passenger has great difficulty exiting the car if parked facing uphill!
From what I've been reading, failure of hinges/check arm is quite rare on this model, and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the subject in here. Workshop manual barely mentions the hinges and check arms and is completely useless!
I've tried spraying lithium grease into the check arm area to no avail, there is simply no 'click' at all.
Anyone had a similar issue, and any suggestions to resolve would be very welcome.
Thanks
Nick

I replaced a broken checkarm on my 2005 XK8 driver's door (RHD). With mine it was allowing the door to open too much and risked creasing the door skin against the rear edge of the front wing.
RH and LH checkarms are identical.

In anticipation of the likely solution I've sourced a used check arm on ebay for £14, a fair bit cheaper than new from a dealer!
I'll await its arrival before I start dismantling...

Well, I finally got round to removing the door card today (very straightforward) and found out what was happening.
The whole of the check arm assembly was moving around inside the door. It would appear that at some point in the past the door has been whipped open too far and torn the check-arm mounting holes on the door skin.
At least the present arrangement is stopping the door from opening too far!
Repair would mean removing the door assembly and some remedial welding, I think I'll just stick with parking pointing downhill if I have a passenger on board - it will be much cheaper!

I have not had this passenger arm problem probably due to the fact that I really try to perform preventive maintenance by controlling that door and the passenger's entry and exit. (more than likely, a lady)
As posted in the past, this instruction is found within this introductory procedure.
However, if you find that your Jag is not attractive to ladies, the very first thing to check is indeed the battery

I finally had a check arm problem fixed a week ago. The driver-side door made two loud clicks at the indent positions upon opening and closing. Having searched the forum, I knew what caused it, but thought the door card had to be removed to get at the screws that need tightening. My dealer fixed it within 5 minutes at no charge -apparently no need to remove the door card.
