Default Door Window Problem - RESOLVED

For some time now, when you open the door on our 2003 XK8 convertible, and the window recedes, it does not go back up whwn door is closed but stays there. If you open the door again, it will further lower. If you do it enough times, the window will be fully open.
This is happening on both doors.
Anybody have any idea where the problem is. I'm thinking perhaps a relay.
Thanks
Jack

Just reset the windows. Lower window and hold switch until you here a click, then raise and do the same. It only takes a few seconds. Whenever the battery is disconnected they must be reset.

Default Classic case of low battery

99% of the time this is because your battery charge is down and the windows have forgotten their travel limits.

Easy fix - turn ignition key to on. Push window buttons for windows all the way down and hold. You should hear a click and car stores the low limit position. Repeat for the up position and do not release until you hear the click.

There are other symptoms of low battery - funny warning signs like ABS / Traction control plus you need to put in the radio security code etc

Our cars need a good strong battery charge. A lot of owners change every 2 to 3 years or put the car regularly on an intelligent battery tender/maintainer (CTEK seems popular) to keep the charge up.

Maybe just go to a auto store/garage who can check your battery/alternator for free.

Could be a failing battery....

Could also be a failing door latch assembly microswitch. Plenty of information (and videos) here on the forum regarding which new microswitch(s) to order, where to order them, and how to replace it. Use the search function with "replacing faulty XK8 door latch assembly microswitch" as your search phrase and you will have plenty of reading to do....

Makes sense.
While car was in storage last winter, the trickle charger got turned off by mistake and the battery discharged..
Will do as advised
Thanks again

I've added RESOLVED to your thread title to help anyone searching for the same issue in future.

Thanks for posting the outcome. Too often we get questions posted, replies made but never hear the resolution from the OP.

I had the same problem and based on advice from this forum, I replaced the battery, which was 14 years old (car started and ran fine). It solved the problem.

You may hold the record for the longest-lasting XK8 battery in recorded history - well done....
