Default Window drop/raise on convertable

Hello all.
1998 XK8 Convt.
The problem discovered; Window lowering to clear convertible top.
So, I know the purpose of the window lowering approximately 1/4" to clear the top to open and close the doors with the window in the closed/up position.
The problem I am having is this. (it used to work normally until recently)
The windows bumps down when opened as it should, but now when I close the door, instead of the window closing (up) like it used to, it bumps down again as it would when you open it.
So after closing the door, instead of the window being closed, it remains open and keeps bumping down whether I close or open the door.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Peter

Could be a failing battery. Could also be a failing door latch assembly microswitch....

Have you already performed the simple window reset procedure to see if that cured your issue?

Does this door's puddle light work normally? On with door open off with door shut?

If yes it's not the switch. Our 98s run that light off the door switch, later yrs are different. Its happened to me. (BTW- your dash display will say "driver door open" as well).

the vast majority of folks with this type issue clear the trouble with a window reset.

Often it is the battery (low voltage) causing this problem. This car is sensitive to low voltage. You can reset the window by using the procedure linked below.

Yes a micro switch/linkage movement in the door latch could be the problem and at time just adding a little WD40 to the door latch and working the door open and closed a few times fixes the problem.

Default resolved!!

I want to thank you all for the information.

After replacing the battery, which was due, I did the travel reset and now it works as it should.
Thank you all for helping out with this issue!

Now put the top down and go
