In winter the side windows can freeze up, making it difficult to get into my cabrio.
Could the remote be used to start the car, heater and heated windows?
I would be happy with a changeover switch in the car so that the action that opened the hood in summer, started the car in winter.
No presure you understand
Thanks
Thanks SmoggyX for the suggestion! Glad you are not too demanding Originally Posted by smoggyx100

Once I get my remote-top production stabilized I'll put my engineering hat back on and give it some thought.

Not bad, considering the simple video switch was $200 also, ignition coils are $55 each, my replacement fuel pressure regulator was $150, and none of those have an ounce of cool factor to them. Originally Posted by WhiteXKR

Its too hot down here to be taking my car apart, but I will order one when things start to cool down in a couple of months.
The unit looks really well put together.

WhiteXKR, if you are looking another project, I suggest a remote start module. I miss being able to remotely start a car from the house. The remote start allows the interior to be pre-cooled or pre-heated when I get in it.

Thanks Don for the suggestion. I had a few other suggestions along those lines also. There are some commercial products already available, and I may look at how easily they can be integrated with the XK8/R.Originally Posted by Don Neff

It's a little more money than I'd like to spend right now, so if someone wants my spot in line, they can have it. Maybe this winter, when the car is taunting me in the garage and there are several feet of snow outside, I'll buy her a nice present.

My kit arrived today. It really looks nice. Very professional job, Steve.
Having completed the "rear window-up" mods, I can see the value in what you've done here with the all-inclusive package. This is going to be much, much easier and neater than fooling around with the time-delay modules and all the relays! Wish I could take a day off and and install it, but I'm in the midst of trying to certify and deliver Boeing's first 747-8 Freighter, so the bosses are not real keen on granting time off requests right now. That and some family issues (wife broke her leg and is in rehab) will probably prevent me from installing it as soon as I would like.
Alas, being cool may have to wait a bit.

Latest versions are ver. 1.2a for '96-99 cars and ver. 1.3 for '00-06. cars
In both cases only PAGE 12 is new relative to version 1.2 .
Thanks to all the early adopters for providing valuable feedback !!

I installed my kit today. It works flawlessly. I had emailed whitexkr because on my car, one of the last two wires to connect was not on the connector he said in the instructions. It turns out I guess that on my car (2004 XK8), the wire needed was in a different location. Steve said he would update the instructions. It took me 2.5 hours to complete, and everything worked first time! Great job Steve, and the product looks to be very high quality! Thank you!

I installed mine last weekend, and I made a video of it, of course. It took me about 2.5 hours, but if I hadn't been messing with the video camera I'm sure it would have been a 90 minute job (or less).
Here's the video. It's a long video, and I didn't break anything or hurt myself, so it's not very funny. Sorry. However, this is my first HD video. To watch it in HD click on the little icon down below the picture.

Rev. Sam- Thank you for challenging me to implement this four months ago !! It has been a really fun ride.
I greatly appreciate this video, as I am sure many others will.
I hope you enjoy you new found 'coolness'

Rev. Sam, great video as always. I am confused though about 1 thing (which I don't think has anything to do with the controller you installed): When your top was already down, and you raised it, your front windows raised first, then the top raised up and latched, then the rear windows went up. You even commented in the video about the front windows raising, as if it is normal. On my 2004, both front and rear windows go up only AFTER the top is up and latched. I thought this was by design and is to protect the window and gaskets. Im just wondering if this is normal and if there is something wrong with my car?
