Default dumb remote battery question

This question probably sounds dumb but my remote only works when im close to the car, i figured the battery was dead but when i opened the fob there were 2 batteries stacked on top of each other. is this right? can someone verify the size/style battery required? I drive a 97 xk8

thanks

Yes the batteries are stacked. You don't often see batteries used in series but these are.

.....following on from this point.
how long have you got from when you open the key to take the old batteries out and replace them with new ones before the key needs to be reprogrammed?
or will the key work straight away when you put it back together or do you have to reprogram it the moment the batteries are taken out?

Sorry that i didn't put in that you needed 2 earlier... ! Brain was tired... but I changed my batteries recently and had no problem with using it without going thru the programming. Although, there is program instructions in the forums and it was not hard to do.

i think you have to change the batteries within 20 seconds, otherwise you will have to reprogram the remote

I changed the battries in both my fob's and they were off long enough to clean the switch contacts. I didn't need to reprogram. It has been my experiance that these Jaguar fob's aren't as long distance as I am used too in my other vehicles
