Default ECM Code B0327

Hey I own a Jaguar xk8 2001, I've reviewed the workshop manual and searched for this code and I can't find it. It started coming up randomly in my car when driving causing a restricted performance light for 2 mins then going away till later(without clearing the code), like another morning drive within the first 10 mins when cold.

I can't find anything on what the code means to make sure this isn't a small thing that can become a bigger issue later.

Hopping this thread helps me and anyone else who ever sees this code on their car.

-Ignore the 1646, currently undergoing fixing that issue still.

I think the OBD tool / software is confusing (to be kind). What tool is it?

I have an expensive code reading machine I use between 3. And they all showed the same. I have autel maxisys, and a top scan tool. Both showed the same code.

Many readers, (including WDS/IDS) will list B0327 (and other POWERTRAIN codes) as BODY codes for no reason.

Your DTC is most likely P0327 KS sense circuit out of range (low voltage) A bank (1)

FFS, that's terrible. Inexcusable. Their software "skills" must be pathetic.

Good to know, though!

WDS or IDS

When the DTCs are 'read for their current content position' (as the read tab is described) there is sometimes a separate listing at the bottom for other modules.

Normally they have to be read and cleared separately from the main module listing.(I don't know why)

Default ECM Code B0327

I have had a number of B/P codes on my MY99 XK8 and I have a hunch that the B codes seem to appear during car initialisation (before engine start) and the P codes then appear after engine start. For instance, I had the same B0327 code which also appeared with the P0327 code. These pointed to the RHS Knock sensor. I cleared the codes using my scanner and then rescanned without power cycling the car. There was "no faults found". Then I turned the key off and on (electrics only) and rescanned. I immediately saw the B0327 code. I then started the engine and rescanned. I then saw both B0327 and P0327 codes. Make of that as you will.

I saw an identical situation 6 months ago with a throttle motor control circuit fault. (B1229 and P1229 I think). B appeared first and then P after start of engine. I ended up swapping the whole throttle body for a second hand one and so far it is OK (however I may have an occasional TPS issue now - sigh)

As for the knock sensor, I acquired a replacement and fitted it, cleared the codes and then the scan seemed to clear and stayed clear. Before I replaced the knock sensor I measured the dc resistance of both knock sensors using a basic meter. The good sensor showed a 200k ohm resistance and the bad sensor showed a rising resistance from about 50k ohm to 70k ohm. On extracting the bad sensor I found that it had a small crack in the housing. The weather was also very wet so I thing think that the sensor had moisture ingress and hence the ECU spotted a low resistance on startup -> B/P0327.

So glad I got a code scanner. It's like "whack-a-mole" keeping this thing happy. It's such a good looking car though!

Hope that helps someone...

There can be a pending P0327 so maybe the tool is reporting it in an odd manner as B0327. Same with B1229 and P1229.

Yes. That could be right. Either way, I just ignore the B and P and assume that the XXXX code is what I need to fix. The current damp weather is not helping the situation and sadly I don't have a warm garage for the car :-(
Looking forward to the drier and warmer weather so I can get the car back out. Using the time to fix internals and leather and trim and...

Thanks.

Diagnostic trouble codes that begin with the letter B are proprietary Jaguar codes related to Body electronics. Systems that trigger B codes include lighting, HVAC, power seats, airbags, etc. Often, B codes are triggered due to low battery voltage when the key is turned to the Accessory, Run or Start positions.

Reviewing the full DTC Summaries manual (attached), it does not appear that B0327 is a valid code for a 2001 X100, so I agree with those who have said it is an erroneous interpretation by the scan tool.

Cheers,

Don

Yes. I've heard of the body codes being mentioned before but in my experience I've only every seen them paired with an equivalent P code with the same ID. Perhaps this is just my diagnostic tool TOPDON ArtiDiag 600S. It seems like a good tool and has been really useful to me but I'm sure there are better.

Cheers.

Body codes are very common, but they can't be read by most generic OBDII scanners.

I've never seen them paired with the same number Powertrain code using Jaguar SDD or IDS, AutoEnginuity with Jaguar extension, my Autel Maxisys Elite, lesser Autels or Launch Creader VII scan tools. I think this paired B code must be an erroneous artifact of some scan tools.
