The below might help if you haven't already found them.
In the stickies at the top of the main page. Do a text search for 'Workshop Manuals' in this post of H2OBoy's:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...00/#post201829
There's also an engine repair guide on member Gus' site of everything:

quandry
I have replaced so much on this car, I am getting a little disappointed
I did the all the chains, blades, tensioners 6 years ago
new springs this year $900
new top, headliner and seat covers last year $6,000
and now
to do the heads properly, replacing all seats, etc around $3,000
1 replacement head used of unknown quality, around $300
minimal work on head, only cyl 8, 2 valve seats, 4 valves around $300
I may just to the minimal and see what happens next

a little pause before i continue on the engine
front and back lawns needed reseeding after the grubs ate them up
and my wheelbarrow tire went flat, fixed the tube, reinstalled and went flat again. I ordered a new tire
the washing machine was behaving erratically intermittently and I removed all the panels so we can watch the wax motor and its operation
I did pull the two intake valves where the seats moved. they still look good.
and a replacement used head for xk8 is around $450 with shipping
My shoulder was giving me some pain after struggling with those head bolts
I could not raise my arm horizontally without pain
last week X-ray tech said I had a subtle fracture in the top outside of the arm bone fitting into the shoulder, otherwise know as the greater tuberosity.
got a cortisone shot yesterday and go for physical therapy today
probably wait a while before I tackle the heads again

so back to the heads
I sent the bad head off to have seats replaced.
In the meantime I am checking valve clearances on the passenger head.
All intake were too tight, at minimum or just below.
same for exhausts: all clearances at basically .009 " and should be just under .012"
So I will measure all the shims and then play musical shims to see what size new ones I need.
