Default Failsafe Engine Mode puzzler

I have a 2000 XK8 with 90K miles. A while back I started getting the Failsafe Engine Mode warning. No fault code other than the standard P1111 is showing nor is there any performance degradation. I finally realized that I only get the condition when the cruise control is turned on, whether engaged or not. When the warning comes up, cruise control is turned off - or, at least, the light on the button goes off and I can't engage. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, do you have any suggestions?

Had this happen once (no codes as well) and it cleared have not seen since. Per JTIS there are 10 codes that will cause cruise to be inhibited:

Amber Engine Failsafe ModeCruise inhibited
P1516
P1517
P1571
P1696
P0568
P0570
P0569
P0567
P0566
P1697

If I read the DTC chart correctly, these faults do not store the code - so you would have to read before shutting the engine off to see the fault.

If it is showing up only when the cruise control is turned on I would be looking at the brake switch. It has two switches and one of them is for the cruise control.

Gus, thank you for the heads up. I'll check that next. It does seem to come on right after I've slowed or otherwise heat the brakes.
