Default Filter Replacement

Just got 2001 XK8 Conv. Want to change all Fluids and Filters.
Am going to use Mobile I Synthetic Oil, have had lots of 'positive' with it on my other cars.

Any recommendation as to a top notch:

Oil Filter
Air Filter
Fuel Filter

Any auto parts store can supply all the filters. Personally, I do not see much difference in any of the brands. For instance, WIX makes about 80% of the oil filters in the US under many, many brand names. Jaguar doesn't make their filters, they come from the same places as the AP stores get theirs.

Wix makes the NAPA filters.
Beck & Arnley make the Jag filters.

Just stay away from Fram, I've had a bad experience with their oil filters & know others who'd say the same. I don't know if they even make one for a Jag.

I bought a coil for my XK8 and it was Beck Arnley. I wonder if they make the JAG OEM ones.

I use FRAM oil filters from Farm & Fleet and Fram Air Filters from Rock Auto. I think it was a Fram fuel filter, too.

Your post came up a minute or two before mine!

Never heard of a problem with Fram stuff and have used it in everything - automotive, motorcycle, marine and agricultural - for years.

Great thing about forums, lots of experiences to draw from!

I should probably elaborate on my comment above:
I used Fram on most of my cars for years as well.
In 2004 I lost a high performance BBC motor to what I was told was a collapsed Fram oil filter, which starved the motor of oil. At the time I just assumed it was some kind random defect.
Last year, my father lost a 4 cyl Ford engine to a Fram oil filter which had the same problem.
We both spoke to a local mechanic who does a lot of work for drag racers, he mentioned that he's seen the same thing happen to several other motors using Fram filters.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but I really, really doubt it.

My Jag shop insisted that synthetic wasn't necessary. I'm not sure how to take that, but he said he just uses normal oil and says to change the oil religiously every 5k miles. He gave a few other reasons why... one was being if you're doing a shorter service interval you won't even see benefit in 5k miles so that it's a waste of money. So what should I think about this?

now xeno, you should have seen by now,s dino vs synthetic oil, and the change intervals are popular topics of great debate, its been discussed to death, and often results in a wide variety of suggestions...most threads get pretty heated, so we tend to derail them when possible. Instead of trying to re-create the same viewpoints, please search out the old threads...its there, I promise you. Thanks for understanding.
