I'm needing a fuel pressure regulator - again - for my 2000 XK8.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # PR472

Rock Auto says they are out of stock as do several other places. Is this becoming a hard to find item?

It looks like $129 is the best price, some places list it at $225 or more. I really hope I don't have to pay that!

My last one only lasted 4 years, the O rings sent bad. I replaced them but still have fuel delivery problems. I suspect the internal diaphragm went bad also.

If anyone has bought one priced right recently please let me know where.

Do you suspect ethanol in your gasoline to be the culprit, eating up the rubber components prematurely?

 

Suspect is one thing, but how can it be confirmed?

Good question. That's why I chose the word "suspect"....

 

That's why I buy Valero gas whenever possible. They're the only chain gas station that sells real gas, not gasohol.

Ethanol WILL definitely wreck rubber parts.

I rebuild carburetors for a living and see the effects of ethanol daily. I never, ever, put ethanol in anything. There is no doubt about it whatsoever, the stuff will harden rubber and create all sorts of problems. I only use premium non-ethanol fuel.

That said, the 2 "O" rings on the FPR are hardened just like they had seen ethanol. They completely lost their seal and fuel was spraying out of the FPR back as far as the firewall.

I replaced them and still have fuel delivery issues so I presume the internals to the FPR are hardened as well.

At about noon Rock Auto took the listing for the FPR off their website. Not a good sign!

 

Perhaps SMP built the units with rubber instead of viton.

If a bunch of brands are out of stock, it would mean the one manufacturer they are
all rebranding has stopped making it.

The way out then would be an aftermarket adjustable FPR as used by tuners.

Silent about what?

O'Reillys is out of stock on that part number and Autozone says they don't have it at their hubs but can order it directly - I bet it will be out of stock wherever that is. Both of these guys sell it in the $140-$150 range. I'll check a couple of other places today.

I would absolutely bet that the O rings and internal parts are not Viton. Way to go guys.

Ethanol Sucks Big time!

I'm 90% sure that Ethanol Gas caused both of my Fuel Pumps to fail during Winter Storage several years ago.

Also gives 10% Poorer Gas Mileage.

Unfortunately, Non-Ethanol Gas is not available locally.
