Default Front brake pad replacement (2002 XK8)

The front brake pads on my wife's 2002 XK8 need to be replaced and I would like to know which pads to use. I have a tendency to buy the most expensive items thinking they are the best. Can you guys direct me to the best brake pads for this car?

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

I'm a fan of Akabono pads, not the cheapest, not the best stopping, not the most fade resistant out there but they are good quality, low dust, low noise, very predictable stopping with some light fading (if you're tracking it but in most cars the fluid will give out before these pads do) plus they have a decent life. Have them all around on both our XJR and XK8 and will replace them in kind.

Thanks TVRT for the quick reply. The current pads stop well and have never been noisy. This is not a track car and is driven by the wife. I am looking for quite stopping power.

You'll be happen. Biggest thing I like about them is the lack of visable dust. These should be them, you can get them cheaper via ebay from time to time.

+1 on the Akebono's above. I've got them on my xk8 and my superv8. They perform great on both of them (of course the brembos make a little difference on the super)

I like the Wagner ThermoQuiet semi-metallic pads. I have them on my S-Type and I'll be putting a set on my wife's XK8 when her front pads give up the ghost (probably this coming autumn or winter). Already purchased them from rockauto.com and they're sitting on one of my garage shelves until needed. They are quiet as a tomb, have better grab and therefore stop more quickly than most ceramic pads, generate very little brake dust, come with a lifetime warranty, and if you purchase them using the usually-available Wagner rebate they cost about one-fourth of what the typical Akebono pads do....

Can someone provide me with the minimum spec for the factory rotors? The car only has 23k miles and the pads still have a bit of life (just started a slight squeak). It is in the shop this morning and I am being told that the rotors need to be turned and that the shop does not know the minimum spec the rotors can be turned too. The shop is trying to go by specs provided from a set of rotors provided by NAPA.

Please advise,

Thank you in advance.

The original rotors should have the spec stamped on them. ??

I had the shop check and only a part number could be found on the rotor. I am going to install the new rotors to guarantee the wife's car will stop without any issues. Better safe than sorry for a few hundred bucks.

Thanks for the replies.

I agree, these are the lowest dust pads available! Wheels stay remarkably clean.
