Default Front shock absorber

I'm looking for new front shocks for my 2003 XK8. I see the price is all over the place ($115.00/$450.00). Need some advice.

thanks DM

XKR comes with adjustable shocks (very expensive). XK8 Bilstien shocks cost about $115 each. Now technically, from what I've read, one could order an XK8 with CATs (adjustable shocks) but i don't think I've ever heard of it.

Do you have a wire sticking out of/attached to the top of your shock? No? Buy the $115 shocks.

Friend measure your ride height. You may need new upper shock spacers. Height shows this. Bottom edge of wheel well to center of wheel.

As I recall front should be 15.75 inches. Look it up and verify.

The best price I found for the Bilsteins is at Rock Auto. Both fronts and Uro shock mounts ran $400, shipping and tax included.

I just used this combination on my 2006 and it seems to work well. Installation is another matter as getting the fajcrum bolt out was a bear.

The Bilstein's from Rock Auto are great but stay away from the Uro shock mounts, garbage and you will be doing the job again in 2500 miles. After the Uros's I went to Welsh and they seem very good.

And the great debate begins.....glad you didn't mention oil. LOL ;^) I also used Bilsteins from RA and the URO tops. No trouble so far. Others haven't had such good luck. TM

One other consideration - The Bilsteins don't include bellows or bumpers. You might want to check their condition before ordering (if possible).

My Y2000 XK8 has CAT shocks complete with wires. But that's an earlier car.

Go for the Bilsteins from Rockauto, they have the best price and those are the OE shocks. For the shock mounts, contact member cjd777, he makes an upgrade poly unit that actually has stood the test of time. I have been the guinea pig who tested the first pair and they have held up very well to Puerto Rico's hellish roads. So far, I have had them for about 1 year and 5 months with 7,000 miles, and they have outlasted the Welsh mounts and the URO mounts.

You don't have to remove the fulcrum bolt...
