Default Fuel lines.. i've had it. i'm cutting them!!!

Fuel pump failure after only two years. No lift. Slipped on the fuel
disconnecting tool, pushed on it with assorted other tools while pulling
on the line. They will not separate from the tank. Wasted all day with it.
Tomorrow they get cut! I will use gasoline rated rubber line and clamps
for the install. Soon the hardest part of changing a pump in my car will be
removing the trunk lining! 2001XK8 convertible will submit!

Be sure to safety wire the hose clamp to each other or to something solid. That will keep them from blowing off. I repaired an LP A/C line like that w/o the safety wire. One hot day they blew apart.

Funny they put that type of connection in there to save time. Ha! Ha!

I just did the job a few weeks ago. I used a combination of the little plastic discs from the local auto parts store (recommended on Gus' site: Thanks as always Gus!) and made the "PVC pipe with the groove" tool from Reverend Sam's video...(Thanks Rev and whomever invented it). I tried Rev's tool alone for hours with no luck. Once I used the combination I had both of my fuel lines off in 20 minutes. (Lucky us with two of them on the 01 XK8). : (

Read Gus's write up... it was most helpful. What i liked best was he was the only one that mentioned how to actually "see" the lines going into the tank. Much appreciated. I also made the chiseled extension tool and pushed in on the
same autozone fuel removal disc. no luck. time to improve their design.

push in on the line, pull the tool back then pull the line off. if you pull on the line before the tool has a chance to release the clip you'll never get it off

I'm soooo sorry your are going through this... Seriously, those near-to-impossible line removal and replacement (to replace the fuel pump) were very close to the most difficult and frustrating automotive repair I have ever experienced. Truth..... Insane things are done at the factory.
