Well I am sure that you can. I just pulled the Nav Screen and converted over to the 3 Gauge. However, the problem is the Older Nav Units (pre-2007/08 ?) can not get any updated maps. They are just an expensive clock now.

The other options are:

(1) install the Nav Screen and do the 'mod' to add a remote GPS (which also lets you do a rear camera and various other things).

(2) install the center dash section set up for the Nav Screen, but install a GPS behind it in the opening.

Visit Rev Sam's or WhiteXKR's various posts and links for the above.

P/M me if you are looking for the Nav Screen, Unit in Trunk, CD and Center Wood Section (it is a little faded coming out of my 2001). You would probably have to talk to WhiteXKR abou a new harness though.

I have a 2002 XKR with the nav system and it has a 1998 map disk in it. I am in the Los Angeles area and it gets me to 98 percent of the places I need to go. If nothing else I use intersections and personal waypoints and can get to where I need to go. If all else fails I get close and then read a map. That works every time.

Good luck.

For Kadmiri -

You just have several posts to go (I believe that you need 10, just check under the New Members Forum), until you have full rights.

What I do have, is a 2001 Jaguar XK8 working GPS with Front Nav Screen, Rear (truck mounted) Head Unit, Pre-2003 working C/D Disc, rear Mounting Rack (this I am going to have to check out to see if it can be unbolted/seperated from the C/D Player Rack, however - you might want to check and see if your Jag all ready has the Rack mounted).

But be advised as far as the Wood, what I have is the 'Burl' and it is 'faded/cloudy'. It is becoming somewhat common with the 2001 Models for the Wood to become 'faded/clouded' due to an employee change in the Factory Wood Shop. I am in the process of changing out all of my Dash Wood, due to this 'fading/clouding'.

You will also probably need a Harness for the hook-up. The Center 3 Gauage is a different Harness than the Nav Unit. I really do not see me, trying to extricate/remove the no longer used one from my Jag. I am sure, it is tied into other wire bundles and would be a PITA to remove.

The other thing that I am unsure of, is if the GPS has a separate remote antenna. If it does - where it is at and if it can be removed.

As far as sending me a P/M (Private Message), there is a 'button/link' on the posts to contact a member, though you may need to get past the 'new member' stage.

Default Swapping Gauges for a GPS

Not sure anyone should do this or even consider buying a vehicle with a built in GPS. First of all, they need to be updated and the cost can run several hundred a year. 2nd they break and the repairs can run $2500. A good portable Garmin can be had from less than $100 to about $250 with lifetime updates.
Lastly, if any car ever needed good gauges it's the XK. Spend the money doing the real gauge mod so at least the ones installed have meaning. Right now they are fake.
