Gear shift stuck in Park
Hi All,
I am trying to learn how to troubleshoot an issue I am having and to hopefully repair it myself if possible.
Currently the gear shifter is stuck in park. I have read a workaround here in the forum that describes how to release it manually, which I do now. However, after opening the gear shifter I see what seems to be a normally-open switch that I assume is what releases the break. However, I do not know how to troubleshoot whether the problem is a switch, the solenoid, or possibly problems outside this area (wire connectivity, etc.).
The brake switch seems to work, based on the fact I see the brake lights come on. However, I do not know whether this also indicates that the brake switch is sending a release signal to the solenoid.
I'm open to any step-by-step diagnostic details, etc. Thanks in advance!
Robert
