Default Heated Seats not working after flat battery 2005 UK XK8 4.2S

2005 XK8 4.2 S

Can anyone point me in the right direction ... Inadvertently let the battery go flat enough not to unlock the doors ... charged the battery, reset the windows, reset the radio ... heated seat switch indicator lights not coming on and they produce no heat ... they worked perfectly before.

Thank you
Ray

Have you checked the associated fuse?

For our US-version 2006 XK8, the driver's seat control module is handled by Fuse No. 1 in the fascia fuse box on the driver's side. The passenger's seat control module is handled by Fuse No.1 in the fascia fuse box on the passenger's side. Both are specified as 20amp fuses. I do not see any separate fuses for the seat heaters in my owners manual diagrams....

Thank you again Jon, In that case I need to check if the rest of the seat functions are working then identify where the fuse is on mine.

Well, I checked the other seat functions and they all work ... the seat heaters don't appear to have a separate fuse according to the handbook.
So, it's still a mystery ...
Is there a fuse for the heated seats?
What else might it be?
It coincided with the battery being flat

The buttons that control the seat heaters are in one of the console modules. Do the other buttons in that module function as they should? Fog lights, traction control, etc?

Thought being that maybe the issue is the power to the button module rather than the seat heater or seat module itself.

How about fuse #8 10 amp same box (driver'sseat switchpack)? Does your tilt steering work? It controls that too.

5A Fuse #6 drivers side fusebox is the fuse for the buttons themselves.

Thank you for the continued help ... I tried the adjacent buttons today ... both the front and rear fog lights work and all the buttons on that row indicate being on apart from the heated seats.
If there is a fuse you would think it would be mentioned by name in the in the handbook - wouldn't you?

Does anyone else find it odd there is no mention of the heated seats in the fuse section?

There are 98 fuses in the car and none of them are for the heated seats

Wouldn't you think if there was a fuse, it would be 30 amps?

All the 30 amp fuses are clearly identified for something else.

My passenger side seat heat worked but all remaining movement functions (up, down, forward, recline, headrest movement) did not. So I replaced the seat module and now all the movement functions work but the heater button does not. I read here that the module needed to be reprogrammed to the car, a 2004 XK8. I do not know how to reprogram so I took it to the Dealer. It cost me $189.00 and three days in the shop to find out there are no new modules anywhere in the world (yes, I knew that) and that the seat heat function does not work (yes, I knew that) and that my car needed an air filter and oil change (no, it did not, I had just did that a few months earlier). Apparently the dealer could not reprogram my module (an expensive lesson).

My long story is to say you could consider reprogramming the module.

Thank you for that, I had read yesterday evening about "re-booting the system" ... touching the two battery cables together ... but need to know if it is likely to succeed first.

Default Solved - heated seat problem

SOLVED ...

Today I found my radio code, lowered the side windows slightly, then removed both battery leads and fastened them together for 30 mins ( I doubt the time is important, but it adds to the dramatic effect)

I replaced the battery leads (Positive first) and started the engine ... the heated seats are back to normal, working perfectly.

Reset the side windows - hold the down button until audible click - hold the up button until audible click - repeat for other window.

Turned radio on and applied code when requested.

Thank you again for your help

Well, its happened again, neither of the heated seats are working and the switches are not lighting up. It didn't follow a flat battery, one day I just noticed they were not working.

Held the battery leads together again but this time, unlike last, it didn't change anything they are still not working.

Any suggestions please ?

Thank you Ray

And ... On the subject of touching the battery cables together to reset the memory is everyone aware it resets the auto gearbox and clears any lessons learnt from previous driving?

In fact, it appeared the memory reset hadn't worked this time, after reconnecting the battery I turned on the ignition, tried the heated seat switches and nothing happened ... it was then I made the post above ... later when I actually drove the car the heated seats are working fine, along with the red indication lights.

With regard to a situation where only one seat fails - I would expect that to be a failure of the heating element or a faulty switch.

I'm working on the assumption they don't have any individual fuses or relays.
