How can I get just a little more noise from the exhaust?

Default How can I get just a little more noise from the exhaust?

Is there a simple mod I can do to my exhaust to give me just a bit more of a V8 burble? I have the nice OE quad tips on a stainless exhaust and so am loathe to change to what could be an inferior quality and/or ugly OTT sports exhaust. I also want to avoid sounding like a 17-year-old street racer. Most of the sports exhaust videos I have seen on YouTube sound too extreme for me.

The most common thing for a mild increase is to remove the center muffler and replace it with an X or H pipe. Check out this thread for a little more info (Matt has a comparison video of straight pipes in place of the center muffler). It's inexpensive and easy. It seems to bit a bit mild for most, but it could be exactly what you are looking for.

Here is another good thread to look at.

Just a friendly word of caution. On a few of my past toys I have gone the "little extra sound" route and after spending time effort and most of all money I found that the extra note decibles were fun for about an hour. After that they became like nails on a blackboard especially when a great song was playing or it was two men out bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth! I also never was happy with any of the cars overall performance after exhaust mods. One of the things I love about my xk8 is how quite and mannerly it can be until you put your foot down then you get just enough note and acceleration to know this is no average car. For me this stock setup is perfect! Good luck.
