Default How to remove chrome ring on 20" BBS wheels?

The front two chrome rings on my 20" BBS Sepang rims are pretty damaged and I was wondering how difficult it would be to swap them for some new ones.

They are available for about £100 each and would tidy the wheels up a bit until I can get them professionally refubished.

Is there a how-to anywhere? Rev, can you knock us up a video? I know you don't have these wheels on your car, but that's no excuse

EDIT: I have already seen the article below, but I'd like to know whether anyone here has actually done the swap themselves, how easy it is, etc.

I've done the swap on two of my wheels. I took my time, and followed the directions you have in the article you posted. Pretty easy, just make sure to use a rubber mallet, line up the holes perfectly, and use a torque wrench. If I can do it, anyone can.

That's encouraging, thanks. I saw a video on YouTube of BBS wheels that were leaking air and thought that's what I would be facing if I attempted the job myself.

Just for reference, is that article up online anywhere?

I have a copy of the scanned pages someone posted on a different web site. It's not a very good scan but you will be able to read it and view the photos. Let me know if you want me to send you a copy of what I have.

On my BBS three piece wheels on my Bmw M6, you have to make sure the mating surfaces are clean before you reassemble and even use a small smear of silicone to stop the air leaking. Also make sure you start all the bolts before tightening. You should be fine, not very hard just take your time.

Ending up with a leaking wheel is my biggest fear. France isn't a civilised country like the US or the UK; you can't just open the phone book and find a BBS rim specialist in the nearest town

To the poeple who have done this, is a little heat required to brake the LockTite on the bolts? Looks like Blue from picture I have seen of replacement bolts. 11 ft/lbs isn't much.
Where does the leaking come from? You never brake the tire from the rim, the valve stem?
I'm do to replace one!

I really don't want to scare anyone, but I've heard horror stories about removing the titanium bolts. On previous forums some talked about them snapping off and having to drill them out, which was not easy.
Hopefully someone can report back that it wasn't too bad, since I have these too and will likely have to attend to them someday.

I ordered a trim ring form this guy in th UK

but came up short waiting for his next shipment, next week.
Anyone deal with him? Any problem?
Just hope the shipment comes in next week like he said.

The link GUZZI SVT provided is where I ordered my trim rings. Jon Kemp (the owner) provided a very nice, quality trim piece that matches the original trims perfectly. I did have to wait a while to get them but he did come thru.

Be prepared to pay a VAT fee once you receive them.

Bill I bought two trim rings from him a year ago. He never had any in stock at the time. It took about 5 weeks and he shipped them. They are beautiful highly polished. but now I have to polish my other two to match. I would recommend him. I never paid a VAT fee on them either

Here's what I did after weighing the cost of it vs the possibility of ruining a near impossible to replace wheel. Good luck. Drop me a line if you have any questions.

Not sure about the US, but I won mine in a UK eBay auction for £89 each. The Sepang rings are the same as the Detroits (and they are actually stainless steel, not chrome).

Gearco
Probably Coventry West For $445.00 installed with shipping. I bought two rings from England $550.00 with shipping and still have to install them. I have an extra set of Detroits that I'm going to refinish and rebuild, one of these days.

I hoping a local high end wheel shop here in town will put it on for me.
