I did a quick calculation and chuckled a bit harder.
Doing all of the work him/her self, the future owner will only spend: (assuming nothing else is in need of repair)
$250 – 2 rear shocks
$1000 hydraulic lines
$75 trans mounts
$????? Turn signal switch
$????? AC repair
$1000 new front leather
$800 new top
Somewhere @ $3500 if everything else is in good shape.
(notice the damaged console, probably front sus mounts, front shocks, etc, etc, etc........)
+ 8K for the car, 1999, 117000 miles.
What a deal!
The description:
This is a great project car while running strong and shifting well !
It needs rear shocks and hydraulic work for the top mechanism to go up and down.
It needs transmission mounts, turn signal switch. The AC needs freon but the compressor is not frozen. The interior is not in good shape but body is in pretty good shape and its an affordable convertible to drive around the hill country on a Sunday afternoon ! I do have the owner's manual too.
Ho hum.
I passed on a 2004 which sold last week at the local auction for £1850 (~$2500).
95,000 miles, unloved, had spent the first half of its life in the UK hence rusted out floor plates (at least), scrape body damage to driver's door/front wing - but running.
I was looking at a potential parts car, but I now wonder if I missed a trick there. Oh, well...
